Mangaluru, Dec 28: West Bengal chief minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has announced compensation of five lac each to the families of victims, who died in the police firing that occurred on December 19, during the anti-CAA protests in the city. Accordingly, a delegation of Trinamool Congress party, sent by Mamata, arrived in the city on Saturday, December 28 to handover the cheques as well as console the families of the two victims.

Former railway minister Dinesh Dwivedi of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Rajya Sabha MP MD Nadimul Haque arrived in the city to distribute the cheques as well as to convey their support to the families of the victims of police firing.

Both Dwivedi and Haque said, "Anti-CAA protests are being held throughout the country. But only in Mangaluru police have fired on the protesters. The action of the police is condemnable. This incident is a shame to the civilized society."

"A mother has lost her young son. We have come here to console. All over the world, the mothers have only one religion, which is called 'Mathrdharma'. The family of the victims are shocked by this incident. India has lost one youth," said Dinesh Dwivedi.

Dinesh Dwivedi further said, "We have not come to Mangaluru to conduct any press conference or do politics. Our intention is only to console the unfortunate families, who have lost their dear ones. Life lost cannot be revived even if we give compensation. But giving compensation is the sign of unity. It is a symbol that we are with the families of the deceased.

"Let us take step towards bringing peace in this country. Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, kindly give up your arrogance. All of us are like brothers. Let us resolve the CAA issue with mutual discussion.

"The mother of the deceased said that they want justice. So basically the families of the victims seek justice,” he said.

Sorry state of affairs. Here too Mamta is playing the appeasement or rather to say it bluntly "the communal card". She is least bothered of who died or not but she is just eyeing on her next elections.

Karnataka Government should relent and release the compensation. That is the least they can do for the loss of a life.
