Bengaluru, Dec 28: It seems the gesture of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee of providing compensation of Rs five lac to the families of the victims of police firing in the recently occurred violence in Mangaluru has not gone down well with the BJP leaders of the state.

Irked by Mamata's action, MP and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "The Karnataka government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lac each to the families of the victims. However, there were doubts raised later that they are involved in the violence. Hence the same is withdrawn. What message Mamata what to send to the public by giving Rs five lac compensation from her party? Let Mamata pay compensation to the 16 people who have died in political violence in her state first."

Echoing the same sentiments of Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP and state BJP general secretary Shobha Karandlaje said, "Mamata is not bothered about giving compensation to the hundreds of people who have lost their lives in political violence since she has come to power. Let her mind her own business and not interfere in the affairs of Karnataka."

"The gesture shown by Mamata is not acceptable. She is trying to consolidate her votebank of Muslims by this. In West Bengal, Hindus are being attacked by TMC goons," added Shobha Karandlaje.

It might be recalled that on the morning of Saturday, TMC leader Dinesh Trivedi and Rajya Sabha MP Nadimul Haque had paid a visit to the families of victims of the Mangaluru violence and handed over a cheque of Rs five lac to them.
