Mangaluru, Dec 30: The police have registered criminal cases against a number of people for spreading hateful messages through social media and vitiating communal harmony. They have been served with notices for holding inquiry.

After the recent disturbances in the city, social websites were agog with inciting and provocative information and messages. City police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, taking serious view of this development, had ordered investigation by the cybercrime police into it. During investigation, some of the people involved have been identified and they have been asked to be personally present for questioning.

In a number of cases, notices have been sent to the admins of certain groups in which false information and provocative materials were exchanged or spread. Cases have been registered against such admins. Once the cyber police complete the investigation, more people are likely to face the heat.

The city police commissioner has asked people not to spread hatred, provocative material or false information through social websites as they can result in far reaching consequences.

Problem is how the common man differentiate between fake news & original news!

BTW, I still remember a reputed Hindi news channel reported a big report on how the new currency notes would have advanced technology RFID cards for detection & all people believed, which later on was found to be absolutely fake!!

The violence should be analysed by sitting judge of Hc and above The court monitor daily proceeding s Those who acted according to law may be from cops or public should be punished The provocative word is minority and majority which create fear The protest is from all sects of the society we must able to see all sects of the society instead a particular community It is not clear what all rights of citizens curtailed during curfew or Sec 144.It is very sad to note that people have no provision from govt or Police department to reach their home Many times innocent are finished To safe guard innocent or travellers there must be some arrangements for shelter travel food etc

Are you referring to the usual 'internet warriors' ? When real action like protests require their participation, they prefer to stay indoors. When the issue is over, they are back again with their fake ids bashing and lashing at Modi , RSS and BJP.

Sikhs, Parsies, Jains, Buddists and Christians are too minorities. But, they are not targeted. You know why?

They do not spread fake provocative messages, they do not riot on streets, they do not damage public property, they do not harbour or assist terrorists. They protest in a democratic way if they have to.
