Bengaluru: NPR manual issued to officials courts controversy over missing holidays

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 30: A manual of instructions issued to government officials as part of National Population Register (NPR) has given rise to controversy.

Many have pointed out that in the information on holidays for which the officials are eligible, certain holidays have not been mentioned. Particularly mention about certain Muslim festivals have not been made even though Ayyappa festival, Ram Navami and Christmas are included in the list. Festivals like Id-ul-Fitr (Ramzan) and Bakrid are not mentioned in the list, it has been pointed out.

The reason behind the same has been mentioned that the festivals are mentioned in the NPR instruction manual to help guess the month of birth of person if someone remembers the year of birth but cannot recall the month. If the person or the family can tell that such a person was born near such a festival, the enumerator can use the corresponding month in Gregorian calendar to record the same as the month of birth. For this reason, two months are mentioned against several festivals, as those Indian festivals took place in either of the two months.

Islamic festivals take place according to Islamic lunar calendar, and their corresponding month in the Gregorian calendar changes every year. As the Muslim festivals do not take place in a particular month in the Gregorian calendar, they do not help in identifying the month of birth of a person. And hence, Muslim festivals are not mentioned because they do not serve a specific purpose in the NPR exercise like the other festivals mentioned in the list do.

At the same time it is said that the list of Jayantis provided by the government does not have information about Ambedkar Jayanti which has angered a number of people.

This is hidden agenda of sanghis backed Govt to keep muslims away from everything. Its unfortunate that some name sake muslims who have sold their belief are trusting them and fooling people by saying that nothing to worry and BJP Govt is always pro muslims and bjp never goes agaisnt the wish of muslims. BJP is trying to fool everyone no doubt and NPR is an example.

I have answer for your question. Agree islamic festivals falls on other dates and not specific month. When they can mark Diwali under October/November though they are not sure of, why can't they mark islamic festivals with April/May considering the festivals for last few years. Moreover if they can't mention the month in specific, they can jus mention in between or at the bottom with calendar column as blank or mention some appropriate comments. Agar karna hai to sab kuch possible hai Mr. Jai Hind

The said reason given by the Government for not including Muslim Holidays is:

"Islamic festivals take place according to Islamic lunar calendar, and their corresponding month in the Gregorian calendar changes every year. As the Muslim festivals do not take place in a particular month in the Gregorian calendar, they do not help in identifying the month of birth of a person. And hence, Muslim festivals are not mentioned because they do not serve a specific purpose in the NPR exercise like the other festivals mentioned in the list do."

My question is: When the NPR manual shows the Months of each Festivals and not the exact dates; what is the reason for not showing Months of Muslim Festivals? Even the dates of Muslim Festivals can be predicted with an accuracy of missing the exact date by a maximum of 1 day.

Government Guidelines that puts restrictions on Wikipedia Contents, Internet Shutdowns, Apolitical Interview of PM of India to a Canadian Citizen Akshay Kumar, No Press Conferences to Indian Citizens (there is unlimited time to election speeches) by PM of India even in Critical Stages; Governors giving Political Speeches; Army Chief giving Political Sppeches; Ministry warnings to Universities not to participate in Anti CAA protests; Indirect threatening against the Anti CAA protestors; Giving Communal Colour to CAA Protests; Portraying Anti CAA Protestors are Anti Nationals.

One can clearly makeout where we are heading towards. I request all the Citizens of India to participate in all possible ways to save our Country and our Constitution. We may not be in a position to show any Resistance to any unlawful things in the future if we dont show our dissent against unlawful things.
