Mangaluru, Jan 5: City police commissioner Dr P S Harsha on Sunday January 5 rebutted media reports about ADGP (law and order) Amar Kumar Pandey expressing opinions about the incidents of violence that rocked the city on December 19, 2019 during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
A section of the media reported on Sunday that the ADGP during his visit to the city on Saturday January 4 had expressed displeasure over the police firing that claimed two lives during the protest, while also asking the police to gather strong evidence against the protesters involved in the violence so as to take action against them.
However, the police commissioner issued a clarification, stating that the media reports were 'baseless' and 'uncorroborated', and that the media outlets would be issued notices for the same.
"We have noticed (a) few media reports wherein some baseless, uncorroborated writeups claiming ADG (L&O) has expressed some opinion about incidents at Mangaluru have emerged," he said, while issuing the following clarification:
1. No press meet or press release was done by ADGP (L&O) during his visit to Mangaluru.
2. He has visited Mangaluru with specific objective of law and order preparedness in the wake of proposed protests in coming days.
3. It is only an element of fiction being quoted as police sources.
The police commissioner also asked the media to 'stick to facts' and warned against any misrepresentation of facts.
"Any misrepresentation of facts jeopardizes the sensitive balance of law and order and unnecessarily demoralises a force fighting hard in public interest," he said.
