Beltangady: Logo of ‘Vishwa Tulu Sammelano - 2009' Launched
Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Sep 23: The logo of the forthcoming 'Vishwa Tulu Sammelano (World Tulu Convention)' was launched by Dharmastala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, at a ceremony held at Sannidhi guest house in Dharmastala on Tuesday September 22. The convention will be held at Ujire from December 10 onwards.

The logo contains pictures of Kalasige (used to measure foodgrains, representing abundance), pitcher (Kalasha - rich water resources and welcome sign), two tender coconuts that signify respect and welcome, betel leaves and areca nut, which again are a way of receiving guests with love and respect and a coin of Alupa dynasty, in memory of the kings of this dynasty that had ruled Tulunadu for about 900 years.

Addressing a press conference later, Dr Heggade expressed happiness about the fact that the proposed convention is getting very good response from all the quarters. He informed that 20,000 membership receipts have been printed as of now, and a symposium on 'moral stories, idioms, sayings and family crafts' would be organized at Bantwal on October 10. This will exclusively deal with the folklore of Tulu. Relating to intellectual issues, a separate symposium and debates relating to commerce, business, issue of Netravati River diversion etc., would be held at various colleges of Mangalore. Many projects and industries including Mangalore Special Economic Zone have been entering the district in the name of development. In such cases, we should not own the attitude of opposing everything. We should support the development activities that do not result in a huge burden to the society, people and the villages. We should not forget that the support and cooperation of the local people has played a big hand in the resounding success of Tuluvas settled in other regions, he explained.

A session on religion and cultural issues will be organized at Moodbidri on November 11. This session will help to reminisce the belief systems of Tulunadu that have long been forgotten and to introduce to the students, different forms of worships Tuluvas practised. On November 21, a session on ornaments, attire and native (folk) medicines will be organized at Udupi. Display of traditional ornaments of Tulunadu with the help of models, will be organized. An exhibition of traditional dresses of Tulunadu will also be held. The task of collecting ancient ornaments has already begun, Heggade explained.

On November 28, Tulu folk games like Kutti Donne, Lagori and cricket with the help of stumps of coconut fronds etc., will be organized at Puttur. On November 29, ‘Navarasadata’ of south Tulunadu and ‘Nalike’ will be organized at Kasargod. These programmes have received huge response from not only Mumbai, but also Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc., he added.

Karnataka State Tulu Academy president Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, Convention Committee general secretary Dr M Mohan Alva, Dr B Yashovarma and D Harshendra Kumar were present at the press conference.

One feels so nice at the word TULU. This is one language that brings all the people of coastal area of Mangalore together. In my native village in Udupi, the dramas in Tulu used to attract the maximum crowds. One feels at home, while speaking Tulu in a foreign land.

Thank you for the great awareness campaign of TULU WORLD CONVENTION on daijiworld.com. We have been receiving tremendous number of calls and support for the event from all around the world.

For all those who have confused with 'SAMMELAN' and 'SAMMELANO'..kindly note that, SAMMELANO is the right word, and it is picked-up from TULU. Logo is right and report is also right. It is  'Vishwa Tulu Sammelano'

    Thank you.

Tulu Sammelana _ Great Idea. Logo is very representative of Tulu Naadu.( Slight correction: should be Sammelana in the logo). Dharmadihikari Sr. Virendra Hegde is a powerful personality and a scholar and with his leadership Tulu and Tulu Naadu will get its much deserved recognitiion. Tulutha uurudakeleg namaskara.

Why can’t we tuluva’s recognize ‘Tulu lipi’ (so called Malayalam) as our official lipi and introduce Tulu as a subject (optional) in the schools for those student’s language is tulu, at least starting from Alphabet, so they can develop in their future.
