Sharjah, Jan 7: A fire investigation report of 2019 by the Sharjah Police states that cigarette butts, ill-maintained or faulty air conditioners, poor electrical connections and extensions fake electrical appliances are the leading causes of fire-related accidents in residential and industrial buildings in Sharjah.

Col Adil Al Mazmi, a fire expert at the forensic laboratory for the Sharjah Police, urged the people, especially those in residential buildings, factories and commercial places, not to carelessly discard cigarette butts, which could result in fires and loss of property as well as lives. Further, he advised people to install quality electrical connections and discard poor extensions which could lead to a hazardous situation.

He claimed that during winter, tenants use water heaters in bathrooms indiscriminately, which cause explosions and fire accidents.

Sadly, as Al Mazmi rued, the reports issued about fires, prepared by specialists from the forensic laboratory in Sharjah, confirm that all the above-mentioned reasons behind blazes are often repeated in accidents.
