Mangaluru, Jan 8: Normal life in Mangaluru and Udupi remained largely unaffected by the Bharath bandh called by ten trade central unions on Wednesday, January 8.

Both the districts were largely unaffected and life went on as usual with educational institutions and businesses remaining open. Public transport including buses too remained normal.

A few members of trade unions held a protest in front of town hall in the city. Some of the shops in Bunder area also remained shut down supporting the bandh.

However, the bandh call given by trade unions was observed totally in Kasargod.

Buses, both KSRTC and private are not operating. Auto rickshaws and taxis have also supported the bandh. Excepting very few personal vehicles, rest all public vehicles have stalled their operations.

Good response for the bandh is observed in rural areas of the district also. Only few shops are open. Very few people are moving around. Huge absence is noticed in schools and colleges. In an incident vehicles which were plying on the road after 10 am were stopped forcefully by protesters of trade unions.

Excepting Bharatiya Majdoor Sabha (BMS), which is affiliated to BJP, all other trade unions have supported the bandh. Banks, Insurance companies and public sector companies have also expressed their support to the bandh by not functioning.

Protest marches were held in some parts of the district also in this connection.

A nationwide strike has been called by trade unions today against anti-labour policies of the government, along with other issues. The CITU is among 10 trade unions that have called a day's strike. Nine other trade unions, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC, are also part of the strike.

Bandhs are a feeble, desperate attempt to challenge the authority in New Delhi !!!!! The communist, last remnants are active in Kerala... they will be extinct n disappear from our nation... Just look at the pathetic states of Bengal and Kerala !!!!! There is daily turmoil, anarchy.... Industrialists and all investments have disappeared leaving a shattered economy.... These left parties created hell in Mumbai, in the seventies and eighties !!!! Today these Bandhs are used as a political tool, antinationals, lumpen goons n frustrated politicians, as a desperate attempt, to come back to power !!!!

Bandh is the only thing these Communists have done since independence. In the 1960s these lungiwallas with red kerchiefs tried their best to capture Mumbai but were pushed back with the timely formation and rise of Shiv Sena. Otherwise today Mumbai would have completely been in the hands of Mallus.

You need to brush up your history! Those were tamil dons who Shiv Sena fought, not mallus.
You can watch Nayakan and many similar movies or just look up the internet to educate yourself.
And same Shiv Sena would destroy Udupi hotels and beat up people from DK/Karnataka when border disputes with Karnataka took place.Maybe you love Shiv Sena more than DK district?

My knowledge is not based on movies. Tamils were secondary target and Kannadigas were unfortunate part of collateral damage. The Senas main objective was to keep the Mallu dominated CPM at bay which was done with the blessings of Congress.

Namith, the joke is on you. Most people from Kasargod get job here as our own people are busy in snooping and chasing couples in ice cream parlours, beach, park.
Not only keralites, even gujjus and north indians are getting jobs here as our own people are lazy.
So before laughing at others, look at yourself.

Vishal Kumar, I have a decent work for living so i dont need to introspect myself , so called 100% literates are the ones who did record 100 days Harathals in a year in their state , so it is for you and them to realise why their ppl are running to GELF for work as no company is willing to invest there.

between there are moral policers here and more than that there are enuf stone pelters who showcased their kashmiri skills recently, everyone should be dealt severly

    Namith
100% literates seem to be more well informed than you.Educate yourself about history and the reality in your country and the world.
First go and search who started Hartal culture in Kerala.Hint - not local keralites but some traders who migrated from maharashtra who protested against the king by doing hartal.
And who is running now to Gulf for work? That too going to gulf and posting nonsense against their rulers on social media and spoiling name of our whole district.
All the investment is in Bangalore only, our own people run to Gulf,Mumbai or Bangalore for work.

Stone pelters have been exposed in recent attack and pelters are deleting all their social media accounts but its too late.Go and search on google who wore cap and lungi in Bengal and were arrested for pelting stones.
