Mangalore, Sep 28:  The nine day  `Mangalore Dasara’ celebrations culminated with the  magnificent immersion procession of Sharada Devi  and Nava Durge idols  at the  Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple which began in the evening of  Monday ,September 28.

The procession started with rituals held in temple in the presence of former union minister  B Janardhan  Poojary along with other  office bearers and members of the administration committee of the temple.

Nearly a hundred tableaux  added colour to the procession this year. The tableaux carrying various pictures  depicted  epic  themes of  Brahmashree Narayana Guru Swami, the spiritual leader of the billava community.

The Dasara organizing committee also  arranged thousands of colourful umbrellas  that bedecked  the procession .  The traditional  Chande and other musical instruments  also accompanied the procession.
Harikrishna Bantwal, one of the trustees  and  spokesperson of Billava Mahamandala said that the celebration of navarathri stands apart  every year and attracts  huge number of devotees. He added that increasing number of devotees  adds grace to the celebrations in the  Kudroli temple.

Mangalore dasara is the celebration of all the communities in the district and members of all communities join the  procession and the celebrations  inside the temple.

The temple was built under the inspiration of Brahmashree Narayana Guru, the spiritual leader, who preached `one god, one religion’ philosophy.

The roads in the city were decorated with colourful lights and arches . The procession began at the temple complex and was scheduled to end at same venue with the immersion of the idols at the Pushkarini pond inside the temple complex. The procession  passed through  the main roads of the city including Lady hill, Lalbhagh, K S Rao road, Hampanakatta, Carstreet, Alake.

The idol of Goddess Sharada  was immersed along with  nine other  idols of goddess Durga, namely Siddidathri, Shailaputhri, Brahmacharini, Kooshmandini, Chandraganta, Skandamataha, Katyayini, Mahakali and Mahagouri.
