Mangalore, Oct 2: Award winning Konkani writer, Daijiworld's health columnist, and Konkani activist Dr Edward Nazereth’s two books on health were released on Friday October 2, 2009 at the Fr Muller Conference Hall.

Fr Patric Rodrigues, director, Fr Muller Institutions, released the book ‘Bhalayche Jathan’ and Roy Castelino, president, Konkani Prachara Sanchalan, released ‘Kalokathlin Savalan’.

Chief guest of the function Narayana Kharvi, chairman, Konkani Sahitya Academy, said, “These two books are a gift to the whole Konkani-speaking community. Such writers and books can help in the development of Konkani literature”.

Fr Rodrigues said, “The books should reach the common man and then social awareness can be created. There are many doctors involved in their profession and have thorough knowledge of the subject. However, they do not write books and Dr Nazareth stands apart from those doctors due to his writing books and creating awareness among people”.

Castelino and Melvin D’Cunha, chairman, Mangalore Catholic Bank, appreciated the author for his efforts in bringing out health books in Konkani.

Fr Vincent Victor Menezes, parish priest, Cascia Church, gave an introduction to the book.

Dr Nelly, wife of Dr Nazareth, proposed the vote of thanks and sons Nithin and Naveen compered the programme.

I congratulate Dr. Edward Nazareth for publishing the Health books. I have been following his health columns in Daijiworld, Dirvem, Kutam Weekly etc. I am happy that common man will be able to take advantage of these books on using them as a reference concerning their ailments and may be able to resort to home remedies without having to visit the Doctor or hospital as far possible, particularly for minor illnesses. Also, when required to consult the Doctor or visit the Hospital one can refer these books as a guideline so that the right Doctor of appropriate specialty can be contacted. I would welcome the publication of English version and Konkani Roman Lipi version of these Health books so that it can cover the entire Konkani speaking community including those hailing from Konkani heartland of Mangalore to Goa, Kerala, Mumbai, Pune, South Maharastra, Belgaum/Nipani/Karwar etc. and global Konkanis particularly in the Gulf countries, Europe(UK, France,Germany etc.), America (USA&Canada etc.), Australia/New Zealand, Singapore, Israel etc. I am proud of Dr. Edward for his involvement of Konkani Sahitya Sammelan of which Narayan Kharvi is the President. He has also rendered his service to the use of internet through Daijiworld.com, Konkanifriends.com etc. Kudos to him for his dedication to Konkani literature to preserve the culture of our Konkani community.

Dr. Edward Nazareth is a rare personality in the Konkani world. He always finds time to create quality literature in his mother tongue Konkani in spite of his medical responsibility. May be Novels, short stories or articles on social awareness/health his works are simply great. He is books on the subject of health is unique in Konkani. I am previlaged to write forward to his first book "Yuvazonnak Loingik Shikshonn". I also had the opportunity to market the same book in Mangalore diocese that had a great response. I wish Dr. Edward, his wife Dr. Nelly his children Naveen, Nita and Nitin all the best.
