Mangalore, Oct 5:
The marathon turned me into a green volunteer and thereby contribute to the cause of the environment, said Big FM Radio Jockey Avinash after finishing a 65-hour radio marathon on saving environment that began on Friday October 2 at 7.00 am and lasted up to 12 am of Sunday October 4.

The radio marathon that began on the day of Mahatma Gandhiji’s birth anniversary celebration was aired continuously for three days and highlighted environmental issues under the slogan, Save environment. The main focus was on greenery, saving power and water conservation.

RJ Avinash said that marathon was a big hit and received a lot of positive support from the Big FM listeners. The show witnessed several guests, who chatted with the listeners on air. Environmentalists, journalists, environmental activists, social workers and film stars among others supported the cause either contributing as guests or callers, he said.

Big FM stations managed to receive over 9,270 SMSs and over 250 listeners called him and expressed their views on the issue. The marathon was initiated by Big FM management all over 44 stations in India and had set of receiving 9270 messages on the issue.

Through the marathon jockeys collected the opinion of the callers and guests as well as made them take an oath to save environment. “Many callers chipped in by sharing their experiences on saving environment as well as saving water and power, thus sending across the message the importance the issue requires, added Avinash.

RJ Avinash for whom it was a first-time experience participating in a marathon of this kind, expressed that the programme gave him an opportunity to fulfill his desire to be part of such movements that spread awareness among people. I have now seriously thought of supporting the cause and of being help to anybody to spread this message, he added.

Avinash is also a video jockey, who conducts television shows. He recalled the support by his management especially the station head Captain Hemanth Ponnappa.
