Udupi, Oct 10: Under the aegis of the district unit of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation, a function to distribute facilities under various schemes of the Corporation was held at the Town Hall here on Saturday October 10.

MP D V Sadanand Gowda inaugurated the function. In his address, he noted that during the last 20 years, a total of Rs 142 lac alone had been released to the district under various schemes of the Minorities Development Corporation. However, after the BJP took up the reins in the state, withon a year, a sum of Rs 64 lac had been released to the district unit of the Corporation, he pointed out. He advised the minorities not to get carried away by the political gimmicks being staged by vested interests and never to feel that they are different or differentiated from the majority community.  "All of us are Indians. Let us move ahead with this in mind," he added.

Gowda wanted the benefits of the schemes being implemented by the Corporation, to reach even the last, neglected man. He observed, that only 50% of the grants allotted to the district are being used up presently, and felt that this is happening because of the meddling in the affairs of the Corporation by the middlemen. He advised the recipients of the benefits to make use of the loans and other facilities properly and judicially, and promptly repay their loans, so that this money can be provided to others in the society to come up in life.

Mini loans amounting to Rs 20.30 lac were distributed to 243 beneficiaries from 17 Stree Shakti self help groups. Under the 'Arivu' scheme, Rs 15.75 lac was disbursed to 73 beneficiaries.  Under the 'Shramashakti’ scheme, Rs 9.81 lac was distributed to 65 persons.
