Mangalore, Oct 13: The district police have formed a special team called ‘Special Operation Squad’ to deal with communal violence and other similar incidents that disturb law and order.
The team participated in the passing out parade of the 12th batch of armed police trainees held on the Police Maidan at district police headquarters on Monday October 12.
Comprising of 24 personnel, the special squad is headed by sub-inspector Raghavendra and will report directly to the superintendent of police.
Sub-inspector Raghavendra said that it is a squad specially trained for nearly three months. Their uniforms will be black in colour to distinguish them from the other policemen. The team members are from the District Armed Reserve (DAR) police department.
District-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar was the chief guest at the parade. He said that Dharmasthala, Punjalakatte, and Kateel police outposts in the district will soon be upgraded to full-fledged police stations.
Palemar added that the government is planning to provide 16 acres of land in the district for the construction of a police training institute.
Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police (western range), superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeswara Rao, and other officials from the police department were present on the occasion.

A force is effective only if it is unbiased, and treats members of all religions equally. The district police hasn't done much to earn the public's confidence in ths department, even though we hope for the best. It is an excellent idea to have this District Police Special Squad. This Squad's priority task should be to track and prosecute anti-national elements who aid terrorist orgnaizations

Good work, we pray for god for the success in combating communal violence but the situation should not be like Gujarat ATS responsible for cold blooded murder of Shorabudin and rape and murder of his wife in fake encounter case, hope karnataka will not follow Gujarat in terms of fascism
Looks very good and impressive. This force must be pro active and just and not biased. Should have the right attitude. They must be trained and armed to tackle any unwanted situtations and must be free from political interference. First of all they must win the confidence of general public and treat human beings as just human beings irrespective of their religious and political affiliations.
This force must be given lessons in Indian constitution, secularism, pluralism, rule of the law, rights and duties. An alarming news is that BJP government is recruiting RSS cadres in to its police force as it has been done in Gujarath under Modi. If its true please dont expect any changes and it will be like old wine in new bottle.
This is good news to the people of Mangalore.But in order to work effectively its essential for this special squad to remain a political and nuetral. D.K is in need of a force which can control communal violence put the 'trouble makers' behind bars irrespective of their political affiliations.
Excellent move as long as they are not COMMUNALS ! Otherwise few Honest HAWALDARs (police constables) can do the same JOB.

It is good idea to give the special squad seperate uniforms . Hope these young men will control in case of any communal voilence as we can see all new cadets look young and energetic. Let peace prevail in our country and people understand that voilence will lead for distruction and suffering , all the Best to our Special Squad Cadets.
