3,000 participate in Dubai's Great Indian Run

Dubai, Feb 1 (IANS): More than 3,000 people participated in the Great Indian Run, a 5-km mini marathon, held here to mark India's Republic Day, a media report said.

Consul General of India in Dubai, Vipul, flagged off the mini marathon in Dubai's Al Mamza Park on Friday morning, the Gulf News report said.

The event was organised by Akcaf Volunteer Group, an organisation of college alumni groups from Kerala.

The proceeds from the event will be donated to support Children of Determination at the Al Ibtisama Centre for People of Determination in Sharjah.

Even though the event is named the Great Indian Run 2020, it attracted Emiratis and expats from different countries as well and various communities in the UAE, the organisers added.
