Lahore Under Siege, Simultaneous Terror Strike in Three Places

IANS

Lahore, Oct 15: Terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on three security establishments in this Pakistani city Thursday, killing at least seven people.

Militants dressed in uniform stormed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Manawan police training school, close to the India-Pakistan border, and the training centre of the Elite Force.

There was heavy exchange of fire in all three buildings that came under siege. Loud blasts and gunshots could be heard, eyewitnesses said. Helicopters hovered above to keep a watch on the terror drama unfolding across the city.

Commissioner of Police, Lahore, Khusro Pervez, told Dawn News that it was a "multi-directional attack".

He said seven people were killed in the attack on the FIA building and three people injured. These included two terrorists - a third was taken into custody, media reports said.

"The FIA building has been cleared and search operations are being carried out in the surrounding areas," Pervez said, adding that a suicide jacket has been recovered.

The Lahore office of the FIA, Pakistan's federal law enforcement agency, is located close to a school.

At the Manawan police training school on the outskirts of the capital, the militants lobbed grenades while storming inside the complex. According to Pervez, security forces were still searching for the terrorists.

At the Elite Force headquarters at Bediyan Road, 10 terrorists, including three women, barged into the premises lobbing grenades and firing indiscriminately.

Police said the exchange of fire was still on and the complex had been encircled.

This is the latest in a string of terror attacks to hit Pakistan in the last 10 days.

On Saturday, terrorists had laid siege to the Pakistani army's headquarters in Rawalpindi. The two-day standoff ended with 19 people being killed.

The day before, on Friday, a suicide bomber detonated a car stuffed with explosives in a busy market of Peshawar, killing 53 people and injuring over 100.

On Oct 5, a suicide bomber blew himself up at the UN World Food Programme office in Islamabad, killing five people.

I fully agree with Lavin Noronha, Paladka/Bahrain. It is unfortunate that innocent people are dying from these bomb blasts everyday and everywhere in Pakistan. My heart goes to those poor victims who have nothing to do with terrorism. In my opinion Pakistan is the country where a highest number people die from terrorist related cases than in any other countries. This is the country which continuously tried and is still trying, to bleed India by their trained terrorists and royally sheltered dons to create havoc in India, communal tension, harm the economy by printing fake Indian currency, what and what not. Pakistan and its intelligence force, ISI, trained the Taliban to point their gun towards India but now the Taliban has turned their gun towards their mentors, Pakistan. Today Taliban is a more threat to Pakistan than India. A peace of advice to Pakistan: stop sponsoring terrorism and there will be peace in your country. You have sowed the seeds of terrorism in other countries and now you are reaping the harvest in your own land.

It should not be a surprise to anyone. Pakistan is getting what it has sown and asked for more than over a decade. The measure you pay is the measure you receive. However, even a bycycle puncture on Pakistani road, they readily have a soft & peace loving nighbour to blame, so in this instance too..! God help this nation..

In a way it is indeed sad that many people are dying being victim of radical minded fanatics. On the other hand these incidents are a reflection of Pakistan's policy of sympathising radical outfits in the 80s and 90s. At that time they felt that this monster will terrorise its neighbour but not them. Finally we have to hope that Pakistan realises its sins and stop harbouring Dawood, Hafiz, Azhar and the likes. These incidents will continue to happen until Pakistan encourages & shelters anti social outfits.

Within 10 days, there were four major attacks on Pak Army and Police force. I think Pakistan army is losing its grip on war against terrorists. Pak Government is clueless. If things continue like this Taliban might take control over Pakistan which is very very dangerous from the point of view of India. These brainless Tablibanis will play with Nuclear arms and attak everyone.

Before that Pak should wipe out Talibans which is very very difficult now.So International community, especially India should help Pakistan in this time of crisis. Wait..Million dollor question..Do Pakistanis accept India's friendhsip hand ?

THERE ARE SOME TRAINING CENTERS IN PAKISTAN WHERE CHILDREN LEARN TO BE A SUCCESSFUL TERRORISTS IN FUTURE. IF ONE ASKS ABOUT PAKISTAN THE PEOPLE ANSWER WOULD BE COUNTRY TRAINS TERRORISTS AND SUPPLY TERRORISTS OUTSIDE TO DESTABILIZE THE WHOLE WORLD. IF ONE LOOKS AT ANY TERRORIST ATTACK ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD HE CAN SEE A PAKISTANI INVOLVEMENT IN IT.
