Mangalore: Goodudeepa Competition at Kudroli Temple Exhibits Deepavali Spirit

Mangalore, Oct 17: Goodu Deepa Pantha, a Goodudeepa competition organized for the tenth year by Namma Kudla channel on the Sri Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple premises was a spectacular event with attractive and special kinds of goodudeepas. The prize distribution programme was held at Santhoshi Kala Mantapa of the temple here on Friday October 16.   

B Janardhana Poojary, former union minister, Palthady Ramakrishna Achar, chairman of Tulu Sahitya Academy, P Jayaram Bhat, chairman of Karnataka Bank, Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Media Private Ltd, K P Nanjundi, noted film personality and B P Karkera, founder of Namma Kudla tv Channel were among the guests who gave away the prizes to the winners. The organizers honoured three eminent personalities with Namma Tuluver Award. Entrepreneur A J Shetty, dramatist Machchendranath Pandeswar and trustee of Kudroli Temple Raghavendra Kulur were the recipients of the award.  








































K P Nanjundi, president of All Karnataka Viswakarma Federation, said that he was very excited to witness the competition of this magnitude. He said encouragement is the key for any talented to perform. He added the he would make his contribution in the form a unique goodudeepa as a exhibit in the competition next year. 

Palthady Ramakrishna Achar spoke about the traditional value of goodu deepa.  

The competitions was held in three categories namely, traditional models, modern models and special models. First and second prize winners in each category will be awarded gold medals and other winners will take away with other consolation prizes. All the participants will receive gifts and sweets.

Types of Goodudeepas Displayed

Among three categories, the competitors under modern category brought out their innovativeness to the fore with wide variety of goodu deepas. The goodu deepa models in the shape of temple, ship, chariot and aquarium were the scene stealers. A goodudeepa made out of silver was displayed during the competition and the one who guessed the nearest vale of the goodu deepa won an attractive special prize.  

Partners of Namma Kudla Channel Leelaksha Karkera, Harish Karkera and Mohan Karkera were also present. Channel anchors, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli and Navaneeth Shetty Kadri conducted the programme.
