Delhi HC fumes over illegal occupation of govt houses

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday lashed out at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs over illegal occupation of 575 government houses and directed to deduct a day's salary of the department's secretary, who was present in the court but was unable to answer the queries.

Chief Justice D.N. Patel said: "When the matter is related to government, you seek adjournment. You will expedite the proceedings only when your salary is deducted."

The Court adjourned the matter after ordering to deduct Rs 10,000 cost from the salary of Durga Shankar Misra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

When Misra's counsel protested, the court said, "you are concerned about your Rs 10,000 but not about government's crores of rupees."
