2 cops suspended as rape accused escapes from police custody


Jaipur, Feb 5 (IANS): Rajasthan police have suspended two cops - Girdharilal and Balbeer, on charges of dereliction of duty after a rape accused ran away from the police custody.

The accused was arrested on Tuesday around 4 p.m. for raping and smashing the head of a minor girl with an intention to kill her in Churu. He ran away from the police the same day around 6 p.m.

The news of his escape spread like a wild fire and police department was on its toes. The adjoining boundaries of the district were sealed. A massive manhunt was launched to nab the culprit.

Churu SP Tejaswaini Gautam, with additional team members and dog squad reached the spot and conducted raids, and finally managed to catch the rape accused after three hours.

Eventually, two cops deputed at Sudalpur station were suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty.

The accused Akram Kaazi was arrested for raping the minor who had gone out to buy chocolates for herself.

Later, he attacked the minor with stones to kill her and buried her under stones.

The worried family members searched for her when she did not return after a long time.

She was taken out from under the stones and was found to be bleeding profusely. Currently she is being treated at a hospital in Churu.
