Mangalore: Rayan Fernandes – Ebullient Youth-turned-Paraplegic Yearns for Help

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (RS/SP)

Mangalore, Oct 20: An unfortunate accident turned all his dreams into nightmares and left him paralyzed. He has no control over his body parts below his chest. The hope that he was nurturing, about being able to be on his own again and do something in life with the Lord’s grace,  has been fading because of the family’s poor economic condition. Even after one year of the accident, Rayan remains bed-ridden, and the treatments given to him so far have not had any positive affect on his condition.

Rayan Fernandes(24), a resident of Mudar in Bajagoli near Karkala Taluk and son of Felix Fernandes and Irine Fernades,  met with a vehicle accident for no mistake of his. The accident has left him paralyzed, as he has neither control over, nor any strength in his body, below his chest.

As per the hospital records, he suffered injuries of grievous nature, including burst fracture or thoracic seventh vertebra with complete paraplegia and fracture in left clavicle.

His family has been struggling with all its might to enable him to lead a normal life again, but have failed to make any notable headway because of poor economical condition. The unaffordable medicine bills and charges are too much for them to bear, and have made to keep pray the Lord to come to their rescue. They continue to cling to the hope that somewhere in future, their son would be able to stand on his own and fend for himself.

Rayan, 24, after finishing his industrial training in St Mary’s in Udupi, had joined a company in Bhopal in Madhya pradesh.  After working there for several months, he met with an accident when he was on a visit to his native place, in Manipal. Helpless and dejected, he had to bid adieu to his job and get confined to his bed in Bajagoli near Karkala after undergoing intensive treatment.

The accident that happened on September 24, 2008 left him suffering for nearly 45 days in a hospital in Manipal and later, got admitted into different hospitals in Mangalore for further surgeries. The doctors have suggested him to undergo major surgeries.

His family has not yet been able to recover from the shock after the accident left their earning son, who was the backbone of the family,  crippled. His father, aged about  55 years, does not have a steady job. He is now left with the responsibility of shouldering the fat bills of his son’s treatments, besides taking care of the family with five children.

The family’s only hope now, rests on the Samaritans who they hope, will help them to wriggle out of the pathetic condition it is in. Rayan’s parents, whose main job now has been to take care of Rayan, have requested the people to help to tide over the situation by coming to their help. They have been hinging their hope for the future of their son, on the liberal donations from the public.

What Ryan needs is financial help not sympathy. Donate whatever you can to help him. It does not need to be in Thousands a simple donation counts.

I saw many have sent prayers, very few have promised to send money. This has been the case for any charitable work in any society. I call upon our chrch leaders to help all these needy people,in whose name u have collected huge sums, but very few are being helped financially in the end. Mere lip service won't do. Most people have asked Rayan to have faith, if he didn't have faith he would have been depressed & passed away by now.

Don't blame everything bad or evil on unseen satan. Good & Bad is within us. If we control our evil thoughts & deeds then Good will triumph over evil, then this earth would transform into living "Heaven".

Dear Friends / Daijiworld Readers, I had the opportunity recently to meet and share few moments with Ryan's family. I was deeply touched by the sacrifices Ryan's parents and siblings are making with thier meagre resources, & their deep faith in God with glimpse of hope that one day the Lord will touch Ryan and help him to stand on his own.

Like many others needy out there, Ryan and his family too need all our financial support and prayers & words of encouragement. Ms.Flavy D'Souza /Mangalore-AbuDhabi, you have said it all right in your short and meaningful message. Ryan, do not loose hopes. We will keep praying for your recovery & nothing is impossible for the Lord. A Big Thank You for Daijiworld for publishing Ryan's cause. God Bless You Ryan and All those who are going to help you.

All the financial help without prayer will not help Ryan either Mr. Jayaram. Just as you didn't mention that you also pray for Ryan (which I am sure, you do), others did not mention about the financial help (which, again I am sure, they are going to send) along with prayer. So, don't judge people. Just do it with all the sincerity and God will bless you for what you have done. What I mean is prayer and service go together. Just as ONLY PRAYERS won't help anybody so also ONLY FINANCIAL HELP doesn't help. You need God's blessing. Otherwise man would boast I DID IT by my money power alone. Why do I need God? My sincere prayers are with you Ryan. Get well soon.

Dear Ryan, It is nice to see so many reaching out to you in love and we pray that more folks will come forward to contribute generously and help you come out of this predicament. Here is a prayer which i ask you to say in good faith and trust Loving Heavenly Father, With You as my dwelling place and refuge, no evil shall befall me. Father, keep me as the apple of Your eye. I thank You for the authority that I have in the name of Jesus Christ. I speak that no evil shall harm me and every evil that the devil has planned for me is rendered harmless. Father, surround me with Your presence and guard me with your angels. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
