Maravanthe - Unspoilt, Unique Beach of Udupi District

Kundapur: Maravanthe - Unspoilt, Unique Beach of Udupi District

by Jaimini P B - Sharjah

Kundapur, Oct 20: As you move on the national highway 17 from Kundapur towards Byndoor, immediately after crossing Trasi village, you will come across a breath-taking view of Maravanthe. Maravanthe beach is unique because the national highway here is flanked on one side by the Arabian Sea and on the other, by River Sauparnika.

Although Maravanthe beach is well known, it is not frequented by travellers, and mostly, the truckers and pilgrims on buses, who park their vehicles by the roadside to enjoy the serenity of the beach for some time, are the only visitors most of the time. A few years back, the tourism department had set up lamp posts and provided some seats for the benefit of those who want to enjoy nature, but the rising levels of water and sea erosion destroyed most of them a couple of years ago.

The beach is straight and long, with pristine, white and golden sand spread all along the length of the beach. Those who want to have a boat ride, facility has been provided here. Kodachadri Hill, a part of the Western ghats, provides a fitting background to this beach, which remains mostly unspoilt even today. Plantations of casuarina trees dot the sealine all along the highway here providing cool breeze to those who walk past them, and narrow roads wind through these plantions towards the villages of the fishermen and tribals.

If you want beauty, you have it here. Besides beauty, you get mental peace, gentle breeze and a feeling of being one with the nature, if you spend some time on this  beautiful, unique beach.

As a kid I have travelled on NH 17 several times with my cousin William while on the way to Byndoor and later on to Bombay. Every time on this stretch of my journey I used to stand up and strived to view the most of it. However after viewing the pictures I realised that there is something more and I must visit this place.

For most of the tourists, the Maravanthe beach means only the N H.17 passing between sea and the river. Congratulations for Jaimini from Sharjah for bringing the memorable scenes to all at home and to Daiji which compel us to visit the place again
