Delhi Police SI kills woman colleague, shoots self

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): In a shocking incident, a Delhi Police woman sub-inspector was shot dead by a male sub-inspector, who later committed suicide on Friday night, a senior official told IANS on Saturday.

Prima facie the matter seems to be a love affair gone wrong, he added.

Additional Commissioner of Police S.D. Mishra (Rohini district) said: "Both the sub-inspectors were deployed in Bhajanpura police station area of North-East Delhi. The woman was a probationary sub-inspectors of 2010 batch while the murderer belonged to the same grade of 2018 batch."

"On Friday, at around 1 a.m. the police found the body of woman sub-inspector in Rohini Sector-8 area with a bullet injury. After checking her mobile phone, the police came to know someone whose number was saved in the device. After scanning the chats, it was confirmed that the number was of Dipanshu Rathi," he said.

Thereafter, we found Dipanshu's corpse from his car in Haryana's Sonipat area. The vehicle was locked from inside with the headlights on, the ACP said.

Mishra said: "The investigations revealed that they were in a relationship long time back but had separated some time ago. But even after ending the relationship, Dipanshu was following the woman officer. However, she was reluctant to talk to him."

"The woman was living in a rented accommodation in Rohini. On Friday night, when she was walking home from the metro station, Dipanshu shot her dead. Thereafter, when we were trying to trace the accused with the help of his mobile phone's location, we found his dead body in Murthal area of Sonipat in his car," he said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Mishra added.
