New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): From illiterates to professionals, the schemes and promises of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seem to have managed to impress all, according to the IANS-CVoter Exit Poll.

Voters with different educational qualifications preferred to vote for the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the national capital which went to polls on Saturday, as per the exit poll.

In the survey conducted on the polling day with a sample size of 11,839 people from all the 70 constituencies across Delhi, respondents from different educational backgrounds spoke overwhelmingly in AAP's favour. The biggest supporters of AAP were people who were either illiterate, or belonged to the non-formal education category.

As much as 54.7 per cent respondents from the illiterate category said that they voted for AAP, while 27.7 per cent spoke in favour of the BJP and only 11 per cent sided with the Congress.

The situation is similar among respondents with non-formal educational background, as 53.9 per cent said they voted for AAP, 28.9 per cent for BJP and 11.5 per cent for Congress.

What's more worrying for the Congress is that as the education level of the respondents went up, the number of those backing the grand old party came down.

Among those who studied up to primary level, 9.1 per cent respondents said that they voted for the Congress, 48.4 per cent backed AAP while 36.8 per cent said that they went with the BJP.

For the BJP, the best numbers -- 41.6 per cent -- came from respondents with professional education. AAP led this category too with 44.9 per cent respondents backing the ruling party.

Among those who studied up to graduation level, 48.9 per cent respondents voted for AAP, while BJP managed to impress 37.9 per cent in this category. Only 7.1 per cent voters said that they went with the Congress.

AAP also remained the favourite among post-graduate voters with a vote share of 45.5 per cent.
