Karnataka Govt to take Steps to Counter 'Love Jehad' Movement

Bangalore, Oct 22 (IANS):  The Karnataka government Thursday said 'Love Jehad', an alleged attempt by some Muslim men to lure non-Muslim girls with promises of marriage and get them converted to Islam, appeared to be a serious issue and it would take steps to counter it.

A meeting of senior police officials will be held either Friday or Saturday to decide ways to tackle the attempts, Home Minister V.S. Acharya told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

The government has written to Kerala authorities for information on the so-called 'Love jehad movement' which came to public notice in that state in early September when posters warning Hindu girls against falling prey to such a movement surfaced.

The Karnataka government's decision came a day after the state high court expressed concern over the alleged 'Love Jihad' attempts and directed the government to probe the matter.

Justice K. Sreedhar Rao and Justice Ravi Malimath gave the direction during hearing of a habeas corpus petition by C. Selvaraj of Chamarajnagar district, about 180 km from here, seeking production of his daughter Siljaraj.

Selvaraj said in his petition that his daughter Siljaraj was missing since August last year. He came to know that she had eloped with a Muslim youth to Kerala.

Siljaraj, who was produced in the court by Chamarajnagar police, told the judges that she had married Aksar of Kannur, Kerala, on her own and was undergoing religious training after getting converted to Islam.

Rao and Malimath directed her to stay with her parents till the police complete the investigation. The court also said that since she was a major and if it was found to be a bona-fide love marriage, she could go back to Aksar.

The state police are to submit their report by Nov 13.

To support his claim for the custody of his daughter, Selvaraj submitted copies of the Sep 29 judgment of the Kerala High Court in similar habeas corpus petitions.

The Kerala high court had given custody of two girls, who had gone missing in similar circumstances, to their parents. Rao and Malimath said the issue "warranted a thorough investigation and it also created a serious suspicion with national ramifications".

They asked the Karnataka police chief to coordinate with the Kerala police in investigating the issue.

The posters against 'love jihad' in Kerala in September were in the name of Sri Rama Sene (army of god Ram), which had earned notoriety in Karnataka earlier this year by bashing up girls for going to a pub in the coastal town of Mangalore and later threatening to marry off boys and girls found celebrating Valentine's Day.

First try to eradicate casteism and dowry prevalent in the society, bcoz of which hindu girls from poor families are falling prey to such tactics. Love jehad is just a figment of your imagination. Regarding conversion, if ones faith is strong in god, nobody can brainwash you. Better look for other serious issues rather than wasting time Mr DV just for the sake of being in the limelight.

What is this Govt really upto? Aren't there other important, progress linked issues they can tackle gracefully? Should they always search for hidden agendas linked to divisionary tactics? Voters all over the country have expressed clear mandate lately they do basically care about progressive and secular policies. I suppose our guys in B'Lore are not waking up to reality yet. Regardless of party lines, I hope the Govts will focus on uplisftment and modern outlook.... not going through the self defeating and antiquated approach.

Hello BJP, forget about all these nonsense, silly matters. You have lot of others things to do, like developing education to poor people, improving infrastructure of the state like roads, transport, increasing energy requirement etc instead of preparing for next election fund. Every religion has their own respect, quality and system. If I am Christian today and want to convert to any other religion you cannot stop me. This is freedom of India.

Mr. S K had written correctly that ".....truth will be victorious". I fully agree with him. I therefore request him not to be vitriolic in his comments and especially claim ".....My prophecies in the past had come true and will also come a test in the future.". Dont be so vain and dont claim to be an authority on everything, dear Mr. SK.

One suggestion to the Home Ministry of Karnataka is, if they are serious, put in to action road patrolling squad by state security/police force and keep vigil and inquire the youth who loiter on roads or drive on vehicles without any valid reasons specially near colleges/Bus-Stand/road junctions, without any discrimination - make it mandatory for local leading newspapers to put up their photographs and names on the local newspapers. But the sad thing is, in most cases the local police-stations may well be knowing the guardians of these youth and they are released scot-free and here lies the actual menace. The suggestion of road patrolling appears diculous, but it's a fact and surprising to know how hundreds of youth move about well-off without any concern for job or career? Or is this their job or career. Hence, the irony of fate is we say large number of youth are jobless in our S.K. District but we don't find our local youth be it for unskilled or clerical work but they remain well-off without the necessity to migrate to Bangalore/Bombay/Gulf as our previous generation were forced to do. These Questions need to be answered.

In my opinion, the best person who can guide and rid the state of this Love-Jehad controversy can be the person whom I've known for more than around thirty years and who is none other than the Vice President of the state BJP...Anwar Manipadi.

The karnataka government is just implementing RSS agenda and is aiding fuel to the issue which was created by their own parivar member. Now I have gone through their website, which is planning to attack muslims by another word called "clinical/medical jehad" . beware and hold your breathe and dont get surprised if you see an article in the very near future accusing muslim medics of intentionally killing and raping their female patients. These are well planed strategy to alienate a particular community. But I assure you that they will fail as truth would be victorious as God has said in all his books and through all his messengers. If truth cant be victorious, what else can be victorious??? Let these fanatics turn themselves upside down to defame a community, but I am sure they shall be successful. Now one guy from Bantwal has already proved to them that its not muslims but its their own clan member has done it and I am sure some religious heads have blessed him and aided him in his actions as his marriages were solemnised according to vedic rituals. Why he was not caught then??????? Everyone involved is answerable. Just dont blind fold others...People will vote you out soon as it happened in the national level. My prophecies in the past had come true and will also come a test in the future. Dear readers use your powerful weapon of frenchise to defeat communual forces...
