HRD ministry failed to provide security in colleges: Mahila Cong

New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS): Coming down heavily on the HRD ministry after the molestation incident in Gargi College, Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev on Monday alleged that the HRD ministry has completely failed in providing security to the college campuses.

Students of Gargi women's college alleged they were molested and groped by a group of miscreants who were allegedly chanting "Jai Shri Ram".

The Congress leader said: "The main question arises that campuses are not safe and who has the responsibility to do this, the HRD Ministry and Vice Chancellor are supposed to provide security there".

"Students are saying that as right wing bodies have been named, the government doesn't want to take action," said Dev.

The students alleged they were molested by some people on February 6 when the annual fest was going on in the college. The Democratic Students' Federation also extended its support to the victims on Monday and staged a protest.

The DSF has alleged that the intruders raised 'Jai Sri Ram' slogans and waved saffron flags.

"Students were repeatedly groped by these men as well as locked inside the bathroom by them. One of the students lost consciousness due to the mental and physical trauma brought on by the presence of this mob of lumpen sexual harrassers," said a student.
