Jammu-Kashmir Cricketers Continue Protest in Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 23: Under-22 cricketers of Jammu and Kashmir took to Chinnaswamy stadium for the second day Friday, sporting black armbands as protest against detention of teammate Pervez Rasool by police here.

Pervez was briefly detained Oct 17 for questioning after a metal detector indicated presence of an explosive substance in his bag. The bag has been sent to forensic laboratory for test.

The Jammu and Kashmir team is here playing against Karnataka in the C.K. Nayudu Trophy tournament.

"Our main demand is apology from Bangalore police which harassed our cricketer and demeaned the name of Jammu and Kashmir," team coach Abdul Qayoom told IANS.

Putting behind the incident, Pervez scored 68 in the first innings and 35 in the second. The match started Wednesday and would end Saturday.
