Dubai, Oct 24: Displaying superior technique and fine courtcraft, the visiting Indian women’s throwball team outplayed all opposition to win the Invitation Cup Throwball Tournament held at the Dulsco Sports Arena in Al Quos on Friday.  In the finals, the visitors beat Mangalore Konkans Dubai in 2 straight sets to lift the handsome trophy.

Besides the visitors who thrilled the spectators with their grand display, 3 local teams from Bunts Dubai, Canarites and Mangalore Konkans Dubai also took part in the day long tournament.  But the visitors were in for a rude shock when the local Bunts Dubai surprised them by beating them much to the dismay of the spectators.  Mangalore Konkans Dubai qualified for the finals by virtue of their wafer thin win against a strong Canarites team who were unlucky not to reach the finals.  In the league phase, the Indian girls won 2 of their matches easily before being surprised by Bunts Dubai although the result was inconsequential.  Mangalore Konkans Dubai won their two matches against Canarites and Bunts Dubai to qualify for the finals.

The inaugural tournament organized by the Dubai Chapter of the Asian Throwball Federation  was well attended.  The Secretary General of the Indian Throwball Federation Mr. Ramannna and the Hon Secretary of the Bangalore District Throwball Association, Mr. Narasimha Reddy arrived from India with the Indian team for the tournament.

Flavy Mathias of Canarites, Prescilla D’Souza of Mangalore Konkans Dubai and Shashi Shetty of Bunts Dubai were given special medals for their impressive display in the tournament.

The winners and runners up received attractive trophies, cups, medals and certificates signed by the officials of the Throwball Federation of India and the Dubai Chapter.

Referees included Gilbert Aranha, Ivan Qadros, Narasimha Reddy and Marina Menezes.  President of the Dubai Chapter,  C.R.Shetty and the Secretary General Denzil Fernandes ensured the success of the tournament along with the cooperation of several other officials that included Daya Kirodian (treasurer), Manohar Hegde (Committee Member), Chandrasekhar, Tantry, Satish, Shashidhar, Jayant and many others.

Appreciate Solita's comments. Kindly take the initiative to implement all the international throw ball rules in the schools of U.A.E, that's the right thing to do and not to disturb the ladies who have already learnt and played the rules which were prevailing during thier time. This part of the world its really good to see ladies giving thier precious time for this game, inspite of thier tight schedules. Helen, open your mind & heart before commenting. Work hard & win, dont envy the winners.

Hi Cinthaia, Thank you very much. But no Thanks. You said that there is no need for me to explain it again. But this is MEDIA my dear. It has always kept its arms wide open for everyone to express their opinion. I do not know how many of the throw ball players will really want to adopt the internatioanl rules of the game and how many of them will be successful. But Ms. Cinthaia, there is something called hard work and determination. Nothing is impossible in this world and so on...We teach our children that we can acheive anythig in this world if have determination. You too tell this to your children....Right..? Then why on earth do you think that we cannot be successful in playing with the new rules...Grow up my dear...

Hi Solita, i appreciate your vocubalary than your opinon. I was witnessing the match well its not necessay to explain again the it day, was fantastic. As you said implementation of international rules, if it happens for local matches how many of you can play including you, Managalore Konkans, Bunts or Canarites. But i still insists try new rule and build and new teams.

Dear Mrs. Poojari, You are comments are conflicting. On one hand you are saying Canarites lost because of the referee, and on the other keep good referees like Marina. If you were in your senses, the match you are referring was conducted by Marina as the main referee.

If you are pointing out to the other referee, then he was the one who conducted the previous match, i.e. Canarites v/s Bunts and at that time he was a good referee, because they won the match, if Canarites had to lose that match then again the referee would have been the cause for their loss. What made you think Canarites were to enter the finals? Forget about the victory, they have not even qualified for finals in any of the tournaments held in the UAE to date.

I have a suggestion for you, if you have personal clashes with any teams, clear it there and then, and don't degrade yourself before the media.

At the very outset, I would like to thank all the people who worked behind organising such a great historical event "The INVITATION CUP" - THROW BALL TOURNAMENT. The unique thing that you did was the implementation of the exact rules of the Throw Ball game. This is highly appreciable. Some one had to take a chance and you guys did it.

I would like to congratulate Marina from the bottom of my heart for her fair decisions throughout the tournament. Marina, you were the STAR OF THE DAY. Your work demonsterated the true quality of a refree "NOT TO BE IN FAVOUR OF BOTH THE TEAMS PLAYING". Keep it up...

And now the important part of the tournament - Hat's off to you, the team all the way from India. What a fabulous game!!! You were all "GREAT THINGS IN SMALL PACKAGES". Surely we have a lot to learn from you. Dear throw ball players, now it is chance for us to take this as a challenge. It will take time to learn but it is possible. Changes happen in every aspect of life and we learn to move in accordance to the changing world. So are the rules of every game.

If we adopt these rules, then even the future generation will also maintain the flavour of the game. Or else the true essence of throw ball game will soon disappear in UAE. The ball is in our court - What are we going to do with it?

How many times did you won the match in the past and how many times you are intend to win in the future. I don't know about rules. But winner is a winner and looser is looser. If you have lost, you need more practice.

Dear Dorothy & Violet, First of all we do not know who you are. Whether a Throwball player or a Spectator. To know you better these rules are not new, only Manglore Konkans are playing as per their rule and it has been implimented by them only. Nobody used to like their way of playing. you come to the ground & play then you raise you voice.

Dear Dorothy, You have forgot to mention the one line advice to all the throwball tournament organizers to keep the same old throwball rules (which are not acceptable anywhere else but only in UAE (Mangalore Konkans can benefit from it to the maximum, when compared to all other teams in UAE), the bitter truth is that the if Marina would have been the main refree for the match between Bunts Dubai and Mangalore Konkans league match that day, neither canarites nor Mangaore Konkans would have reached final. Marina had to interupt the game everytime to give justice to Bunts Dubai, The new rules are not new these are same old throwball rules and this is Helen from Canarites.

Dear Shailaja, as per your comment you are very innocent and don't have sport spirit. International games refrees also do mistakes, from looser side like your silly comment about refree is common,if canarites would have won the match and if refree did any mistake that would have not been considered, i think you are a blind spectator and new to UAE & first time came to throwball ground. Earlier 10 years Mangalore Konkans Team was always popular team in Dubai. If you have any personal problem with MK Team & refree please speak personally with them. After all we are Indians. - from voilet /Dubai
