Dubai: Payyar Punters clinch TPL Trophy 2020

Dubai, Feb 11: In an electrifying final set, Payyar Punters (Men) beat Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators team to lift the prestigious first ever TPL Trophy 2020. Both the teams fought the battle to lift the winning title supported by the fans of both sides who celebrated with a huge applause as every point gained. In the final three set match, the first two sets were won by Payyar Punters and managed to snatch the title from Heatshield Shimanthoor Gladiators. The first set saw the lead by Heatshield Shimanthoor, but Payyar Punters gave a tough fight, chased it, nailed it and got the set in their favour.

In the ladies final, Bright Winders won the first set 15-12, and gave a good fight but lost to Hyssna Warriors in the second set 15-4. However, in the final set Bright Winders clinched victory with a score of 15-13. It was indeed a nail-biting fight amongst both the teams as they strived hard to emerge as winners of the TPL 2020.



The tournament kicked-off with breakfast served for all. The teams were asked to line-up with their respective team flags which was then followed by a welcome dance by Soul Beats group, Goutham Bangera & team and a welcome speech by Anvi Santosh Shetty. The organizers welcomed the main sponsors Abhijeet Shetty and Navya Abhijit Shetty, Ronald Pinto managing director of Hyssna International LLC, Michael D'Souza managing director of Ivory Grand Group of Hotels, Charles Govias operations manager of Al Faris Cranes, all the team owners and guests from India, Bhoja Shetty and his wife and Mahabal Shetty, parents of Santosh Shetty and Jayshree Shetty were invited to the stage to declare the tournament open.

Well-known Tulu Cine Star (Coastalwood) Aravind Bolar the Tulunada Manikya was the guest of honour who was felicitated with a memento, bouquet and shawl.

The prestigious TPL 2020 tournament was inaugurated by lighting a lamp by the owners and guests. Prayers were offered by Vaishnavi Shetty, which was followed by the National Anthem of the UAE and India. Sarvotham Shetty addressed the crowd and introduced all the owners, the main sponsors and the guests.

The organizing team felicitated Sarvotham Shetty and Usha Sarvotham Shetty by presenting them with a memento, shawl, fruit basket and thanked him for his contribution to the Throwball game. Bhoja Shetty and Sharada Shetty were also felicitated and celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary by exchanging flower garlands in front of the audience present.

Lynel Monteiro led the oath-taking ceremony. All the teams then had a photo session with the dignitaries. Satya Shetty along with his team managed the scheduling of
the team entries into the court alongside the DJ playing the theme of the playing teams.

The final results were as follows:

Men’s team:

In qualifier 1, Payyar Punters defeated Hyssna Warriors 21-20 and entered into the finals, Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators defeated Bright Winders 21- 17.

In Qualifier 2, Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators defeated Hyssna Warriors 21- 20 and entered into the finals.

Ladies team:

In qualifier 1, Bright Winders defeated Hyssna Warriors 21- 16 and entered into the finals, Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators defeated 21- 10.

In Qualifier 2, Hyssna Warriors defeated Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators 21- 20 and entered into the finals.

Men’s Throwball:

Winner: Payyar Punters
1 st runner up: Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators
2 nd runner up: Hyssna Warriors

Ladies Throwball:

Winner: Bright Winders
1st runner up: Hyssna Warriors
2nd runner up: Heat Shield Shimanthoor Gladiators

The second runner up teams in both men and ladies were awarded trophies, gifts and cash prize while the first runners and winners team in both men and ladies received
trophies, gifts, cash prize and auction cash for each player.
