Mangalore, Oct 25: Members of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) participated in their annual conference held at Holy Spirit Church Hall, Jyothi Mandir, Mukka, on Saturday October 24.
The theme was ‘Family Life—Problem and Solutions’.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza, presiding over the function, said, “A woman is the light in a family; she is the main character associated with the good name of a family. Women should teach their children to lead the way. Along with formal education, there should be religious beliefs also. That is important to the growth of a person from his childhood to the end of his life”.
He also added that women should strengthen their power through such councils by participating in its programmes and events.
Resource person Dr Savitha Pereira, delivering the keynote address, said that the woman needs to strengthen her life through involvement in society instead of sitting at home.
"Women these days have been recognized in all fields and have shown their ability. So, there is a need to empower a family through a woman who needs to be trained in all sections of the society. Women need to teach their children to grow on their own ability and to be stable in their youth”, added Dr Pereira.
Fr Victor D’Mello delivered a talk on ‘Family and Church’, while advocate M P Noronha spoke on ‘Family and Law’. The question and answer session was moderated by Lydwin Pinto.
Fr Ronald Cutinho, spiritual director of DCCW, Fr Lawrence Martis, parish priest of Mukka Church, and Fr John Mendonca, parish priest of Pejar, were also present.
A traditional welcome by families held at the beginning was also a specialty of the programme and featured a wedding song. Leena Roche, president of DCCW, joined in welcoming.
In the day-long programme, members of 88 units under 158 churches participated. Cultural programmes were held after the formal function.
