Mangalore, Oct 28: A gang of armed dacoits entered a house located in Hosabettu near Suratkal in the wee hours on Wednesday October 28, and decamped with valuables and a car totally worth about Rs 15 lac, after tying up the family members.

The gang forcibly took away three lac rupees in cash and gold ornaments worth about four lac rupees by opening two almirahs found in the house, besides a Honda City car.

The gang struck at a house located in the residential extension located adjacent to Navagiri Marriage Hall of Hosabettu at about 3 am today, by smashing two doors that had blocked their entry from the rear side. After gaining entry into the house owned by Subhaschandra Shetty, they woke up the family members and tied all the five family members up with the help of a sari found in the house. After robbing cash, valuables and the mobile phone of Shetty, they escaped in the white Honda City car parked in front of the house.

The entire operation took less than 30 minutes. The wife of Shetty, who could somehow break free from the knot, released the others, thereafter. The family members said that the robbers knew Kannada but took care to converse only in Hindi. The fact that Shetty had drawn money on Tuesday, and that the robbers had specifically targetted his home on that day, gives an indication that they were aware of his movements.

Shetty, a NITK contractor and former Rotary president, is involved with various organizations. He is a popular donor too.

Although Shetty alerted the police control room, and barricades were set up at strategic points immediately thereafter, the thieves somehow succeeded in escaping. Panambur deputy superintendent of police Girish, Suratkal police inspector K U Belliappa, sub-inspector Ramesh and other personnel visited the house and took up investigation.

I dont think there should be such a big hue and cry is needed for what Shahnawaz has written. There are facts in his thoughts and again, as Mr. John, Singapore stated, no politicians or police personnel are going to read these arguemens and counter arguements and act on them. An healthy debate is always welcome and we should be grateful to Daijiworld for publishing our positive and negative comments.

This is very bad. Police are busy in catching lovers in Hotels, watching the people converting and catching the people who carry cows for meat. They have to act according to Govt. order and with this poor strength of police force how they can take care of law & order?

Mr.shahnawaz kukkikatte, dubai/udupi comments make no sense and shamefull to some extent as implied by some commentators. This type of crimes can happen even in the highly secure places in the US. Where was the central government when Pakistani terrorists killed hundred's of innocent people around Indian cities ?????

Dear Mr Shahnawaz, your comments are marvellous. Yes, we Indians are fully happy with our Politicians promising a Kilo rice everyday. We eat that and sleep, so that we dont move out but stay there only to vote in the next election. Why are we not demanding a quality life, education and better healthcare?? Our ambition upto 1 Kilo rice is really unbelievable. Which Politician is promising you better education, healthcare and quality life on Intl standards. Dear friends, wake up. Thousands of our dynamic youth are deprived of opportunities on the pretext of Reservations, where such opportunities are often goes to the undeserving candidates and economically backward deserving youngsters have to think of migration or do something for a living, who if recognised, would have contributed for active developments. We celebrate Independence day year after year but without thinking about the real freedom. Freedom to achieve education of ones choice and interest, Freedom to get jobs, freedom to get better healthcare, freedom to get better housing. Where are we heading, after celebrating Independence day for the past 60 years?? When can we see a Developed India?? Its a shame that we were hold up by a few hooligans for more than 60 hours, a clear security lapse. Yet we blame elements across the country, when elements inside are sleeping and giving shelter to them. Lets wake up, lets build ourselves stronger and better.

Mr. Shahnawaz, I think you are suffering from BJP-blaming syndrome. Is this the first robbery/theft in Karnataka? You really know the change in crime rate of Karnataka after BJP coming to power? Who was ruling in Maharashtra when Ajmal & co. attacked Mumbai? Why you are linking Modi to & Gujarat to Mumbai attack. You can't digest the success of Modi. That is the actual problem. Please try to digest it.

Mr Roshan Dsouza, Shyam,Roshan, whatever is your argument, please accept by looking at the recent incidents after BJP took over the reigns of Karnataka, law and order situation has worsened. It has gone to dogs.. Crime and murder has increased. There is an allround development and prosperity in the crime rate. Ajmal came to Mumbai? What the BSF and Coast guards were doing. They made the entry to India via Gujarath? Why Gujarat government didnot spot and stop them? Just to carry out attack on Mumbai? Stop this hypocrisy. I am not concerened about BJP or Congress. Its state and centers responsibility to guarantee security to its citizen. State machinery is lose. The resul is increase in ncrime rate. Karnataka police is busy in finding love jehadis, finding converts which are no issues at all. Police should be proactive in maintaing law and order. Govt should look into the social problems and NGOs can do better in this field. Just because you are BJP supporter, you dont like the criticism. Congress is no better than BJP. All are sailing in the same boat and failed to protect ordinary citizens of this country. They all know how to devide and rule. Stop this hyper hypocisy..

Mr. Shahnawaz, can and will the Police help? May be yes, in this case, as it is re: a well-to-do family and they being bigshots. You and I, cannot dream of active action from the police in such situations. Let us sincerely wish this family well and all luck.

Mr Munna Bangalore, here the question of apartment or independent house doesnot arise. The issue is law and order situation in karnataka.. Flats are viable and economical in big cities like bangalore/bombay and mangalore. But this incident happened in village near suratkal. UPto now cities and metropolitans were epicentre of crime, loot etc and now hamlets are not saved. A good state will give security to its citizens. People will sleep a sound and peaceful night if they feel they are feel they are safe. In Bangalore, most of the murder were committed in flats only.... Safety and security is the issue and not the flats vs bungalows..

Everyday burglary, loot, theft and murder. Where your sense of responsibility gone?? Please porvide security to aam aadmi. You have security provided by state at the expense of tax payers' money. How about aam aadmi, who is losing his hard earned money to silly robbers.. You talk big, but act pig...Thats most unfortunate...
