Media Release
Bahrain, Feb 18: The Konkani Community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church under the leadership of its spiritual director assistant parish priest Fr Darel Fernandes, and convener Henry Castelino, screened the two-and-half-hour Konkani movie ‘Nirmillem Nirmonem’ at Our Lady of Arabia Auditorium in the presence of Konkani enthusiasts of the parish for the first time in Bahrain, eight months after its release in Mangaluru, on February 13.
The presence of producer Henry D’Silva and co-director Norbert John D’Souza in Bahrain added a touch of nostalgia to the screening. Sacred Heart Church parish priest Fr Xavier D’Souza and Fr Darel Fernandes graced the entire screening along with the reverend sisters of the Sacred Heart Church Convent& School here. Also present at the screening was one of the key comedy actors Arun Nazareth in the movie who is based in Bahrain and well known for his short comedy skits. Ironically, Arun Nazareth, one of the debut actors in the movie, watched the movie for the first time here in Bahrain after its release with his family members.
The screening began with MC of the evening Avinash Fernandes welcoming the large audience of Konkani enthusiasts in the auditorium. The movie rolls with a beautiful story of a handsome young hero Sunny and the beautiful heroine Lenora in a typical family drama depicting love, romance, divorce, comedy, suspense, action, twists and turns that can be encountered in the Konkan hinterland. The story rewinds again and again amid the various natural and realistic scenes as they grow up from their childhood. The beautiful message of love that is conveyed in the story is meaningful and inspirational too filmed at exquisite locations and perfect settings. The comical scenes that crept in during the movie had the apt humorous additive and conveyed the subtle sense of humour at the right time, the actors making justice to their comedy role. All in all, a wonderful Konkani thriller movie that kept the audience at the edge of their seat in awe wanting for more. A must watch movie for every Konkani enthusiast to behold. Hats off to its director, the producers and team of about 50 artistes who were involved in making the film a delightful reality.
The movie is interspersed with melodious songs from Wilfred Rebimbus album and music was superb. Marcus (Arun Nazareth) and Simhao, the two comedy actors, brought forth peals of laughter from the audience. The movie has a happy ending with a good message of love and understanding towards life with all the oddities one faces.
During the interval, a short stage felicitation program was organised with Avinash Fernandes introducing Producer Henry D’Silva, co-Producer Norbert John and comedy actor Arun Nazareth to the audience, on the occasion of this premier screening. They were honored with commemorative plaques on behalf of the Konkani Community of Bahrain by Sacred Heart Church parish priest Fr Xavier D’Souza. Henry D’Silva and Arun Nazareth addressed the audience briefly and they spoke on the possibility that more actors from Bahrain would be recruited and involved for the forthcoming Konkani movies. Fr Darel addressed the audience and thanked all those involved in the screening of the film. Two electrical gadgets given by Sponsors were auctioned for a worthy cause. Henry D’Silva informed that they were proceeding to Dubai and Sharjah where too this movie would be screened for the first time. Alfie of Movie & Sounds assisted in the sound tracking of the movie at the auditorium with stage arrangements. Sumptuous snacks were available to the audience for a snack bite during the screening. Konkani CDs of Wilfred Rebimbus and Pressure Cooker Sasumai (singers from Bahrain) were also on sale.
Hats off to the Konkani Core Community for having made the effort of bringing the Konkani movie ‘Nirmillem Nirmonem’ to the shores of Bahrain and thus keeping the spirit of Konkani, its tradition and culture alive and kicking in the Kingdom of Bahrain, far away from home.
