Mangalore: World Tulu Convention - Seminar, Procession in City on Oct 31

Mangalore, Oct 30: As a precursor to the run up to the 'Vishwa Tulu Sammelan' to be held later in the year at Ujire with the concept, 'Kode, Ini, Yelle', a seminar on the issue of 'Business and Commerce, Monetary Dealings, Farming and Crops and Netravati River Diversion,' will be held at T V Raman Pai Hall in the city on Saturday October 31. Home Minister, Dr V S Acharya, will inaugurate the programme, while Dr D Veerendra Heggade will deliver keynote address. Minister Krishna J Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandes, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi etc., will take part as chief guests.

Devaraj, convener of the city committee of Tulu Sammelan, gave this information at a press conference held here on Thursday October 29.

A 'Tuluvere Permeda Nadapu (Proud March of Tuluvas)' will be taken out from Karavali Utsav ground in the city to T V Raman Pai Hall, with the participation of the general public and the students, at 10 am. The procession, to be inaugurated by the city mayor, Shankar Bhat, will be led by the district in-charge minister, district deputy commissioner, district judges, district superintendent of police, chancellors, registrars and heads of various educational institutions in the district, apart from representatives of various organizations and institutions.

Although Tulunadu is equipped with rich water resources, national highways, port, international airport, railway line and excellent human resources, the region has not witnessed the progress expected of it. An effort should be done to make use of these potentials in a planned manner by having a vision for the next generation. The seminar will mainly aim at this point. Discussions will be held through sessions on education, health and media; industry, tourism and transport; fisheries, Netravati River Divsersion Project, agricultural and rural development, and commerce, export, banking and cooperation, in that order, he explained.

In the meanwhile, addressing a press conference at the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan central office in Ujire on Thursday October 29, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala, said that various sea sports and Tulu films screening will be conducted in Mangalore on December 6, while Tulu movies like Koti Chennaya, Badkada Bile, Udalda Tudar etc., will be screened from November 13 to 19 at Beltangady, November 20 to 26 at Udupi, Noember 7 to December 3 at Puttur, December 4 to 10 at Moodbidri and from December 10 to 16 in Ujire.

A DK, Udupi and Kasargod districts level wrestling event will be held at Ujire on November 22, in association with DK District Wrestling Federation, in memory of great men like Koti Chennaya and Agoli Manjanna. Under the aegis of Mogaveera Yuva Vedike, swimming competition, boat racing and tug of war will be held at Chitrapur beach on December 6. A Tulu food festival will also be organized on the occasion, he said.

In addition, an exhibition where rare equipments like the ones used by our ancestors, has been arranged at SDM College. A district level sports tournament will be held on November 28 at Puttur. Plans are also afoot to present plays, Yakshagana etc., which depict Tulu culture, he said, clarifying that  a final picture will emerge in the next 15 days.  Heggade said that Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, has agreed to inaugurate the Sammelan.

The Dharmastala zone level 'Tulunada Gobbulu' sports competition organized on Thursday, was inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, on the occasion, in the presence of D Harshendra Kumar, Hemavati V Heggade, Prof S Prabhakar, Supriya Harshendra Kumar etc.
