Tweeple hail 'Women in Blue's' thrilling win over Australia

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS): Twitterati heaped praises on the 'Women in Blue' after India's stunning 17-run victory over Australia in the women's T20 World Cup opener in Sydney on Friday.

Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav's (4/19) masterclass saw India complete an unlikely turnaround and defend a modest 132 to open their campaign on a winning note.

After the victory, former cricketers as well as Tweeple showered praise on Team India. Former captain Diana Edulji wrote, "Great win. Congratulations. Well bowled Poonam Yadav. Batters have to come to the party too. 170 plus score a must. Go India get the Cup home."

Indian men's team's head coach Ravi Shastri wrote, "Congratulations, #TeamIndia! Take a bow, @poonam_yadav24. @ImHarmanpreet, very impressive win against the @AusWomenCricket."

Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma tweeted, "What a brilliant start to the world cup and an absolutely thrilling victory by the women in blue!! Mazaa aa gaya."

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag tweeted, "Whadaay Win. Well done girls. Bowling out Australia defending 132 is an outstanding effort. Congratulations."

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote, "Staggering performance by India's women. Australia were favourites for the tournament and this is a huge result. Top effort from the bowlers. How good was Deepti Sharma! But it was the little leggie Poonam Yadav who turned it around."

A user wrote, "In her last 10 balls, POONAM YADAV conceded 2 runs and took 3 wickets, wow."

A post read, "Poonam Yadav has always been my favourite. Four-foot-two, moon balls, bowling so slowly that you could sort out a Windows update while it's on the way down. But she foxes people, and gets wickets, and has for years."
