Jafrabad residents appeal for peace from mosque

New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS): Amid incidents of violence and arson, residents in Jafrabad -- one of the worst-affected areas in northeast Delhi -- appealed to the people from a mosque here to maintain peace and harmony in the area.

They also asked the people to stay at home and cooperate with the police in order to restore normalcy in the area.

On the loudspeaker of the mosque, Nasir, a local resident, appealed to the people: "Some miscreants are trying to disrupt the peace in the area. We won't allow this to happen here. We appeal to everyone to maintain peace."

Other people here also made similar appeals. Another resident, Tahir, said: "We are motivating people, especially youths, to wipe out all the misunderstandings and maintain peace in the area."

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the residents of violence-hit areas to make appeals from temples and mosques to restore peace. On Tuesday, Kejriwal said: "Appeal should be made from temples and mosques to maintain peace and harmony. We have also asked Aman committee to hold a meeting in the area where people from all the religions as well as AAP MLAs should also be present."

Not only Kejriwal but leaders from other parties also took a similar initiative. Several top officials of Delhi Police also held meetings with Aman committee members to ensure peace in the area.
