J&K to have redefined industrial policy: L-G


Srinagar, March 3 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir would soon have its redefined industrial policy that would provide comprehensive plan for development of industrial and trade sectors, said J&K Lt Governor G.C. Murmu, here on Tuesday.

He was interacting with a delegation of the J&K Economic Forum (JKEF), an entity of several trade associations in Jammu.

The government would develop industrial areas and provide suitable environment for its growth, the L-G said and added, it was taking initiatives to promote J&K as an investment destination.

Murmu said pashmina, handloom, handicrafts and other allied sectors were the backbone of the J&K economy and the government was taking steps to streamline them.

Stating that J&K handicrafts are world famous and the traditional handicraft had emerged as a large industry, he said due to large employment base and exports potential it was receiving priority attention.

He urged the stakeholders to help identify the trouble points and grey areas to the government take a holistic view to bolster the economy.
