JNUSU claims admission, medical fee hiked in JNU

New Delhi, Mar 5 (IANS): After the hostel fee hike in JNU created a massive row, now it's the turn of admission fee hike in the university, if claims of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) are to be believed.

JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh has claimed that the admission fee, which was Rs 283 earlier, has now been hiked to Rs 780.

She told IANS, "The medical fee, which was Rs 9 per year earlier, has now been hiked to Rs 1,000 per year."

Aske on whether it means the union will launch another string of protests, she said that they are formulating strategies as of now, adding that JNUSU "won't take it lying down".

Earlier, when hostel fees were hiked prompting students to take to the streets, JNU administration had reasoned that the fee was not revised for 19 years. Also, new charges were introduced like service charge of Rs 1,700 per month. This charge did not exist earlier.

With the JNUSU demanding JNU Vice Chancellor's resignation and protesting outside the HRD Ministry after the hostel fee hike, the latest decision, if true, is also likely to create a stir.
