Jyotiraditya Scindia quits Congress, writes to Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS): After immense speculations over his divorce with the Congress party, Jyotiraditya Scindia has finally resigned from the primary membership of the party and sent his resignation letter to interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

What's interesting however is that the resignation is dated March 9, suggesting the decision was taken a day earlier.

While tendering his resignation, he cited, "...as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last year." He added that he is "unable" to "serve" people having been a part of the Congress.

Jyotiraditya Scindia (left) and Sonia Gandhi

He added that to respect the "aspirations of my people and my workers", he has taken this decision.

Earlier in the day, Scindia met Amit Shah and he took him to the prime minister's residence where an hour long meeting with PM Narendra Modi took place. Following that meeting which sealed the next move of Scindia, he released the letter to Sonia Gandhi.

He is tipped to join the BJP on Tuesday itself.

Late Madhavrao Scindia was a Congress stalwart who served as Union minister under different Congress regimes and was elected to the Lok Sabha for nine terms, without ever losing an election. In 1980, Madhavrao's defection to the Congress from the Jana Sangh - the BJP's earlier avatar co-founded by Vijayaraje Scindia - had helped the Congress consolidate its position further in the Gwalior-Chambal region and come as a major embarrassment to the Jana Sangh and Vijayaraje Scindia, the then Rajmata of Gwalior.

It is a sort of homecoming for the Scindia dynasty, which has always been associated with the Hindu Mahasabha. Jyotiraditya’s grandmother Rajmata was amongst the tallest leaders of the Mahasabha and then the Jan Sangh. She was also a founder member of the BJP, along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Both his paternal aunts –Vasundhara and Yashodhara have been with the BJP. Though Madhavrao was associated with the Congress for very long, he started out as a Jan Sangh MP in 1972. He escaped prison during the Emergency with Indira Gandhi’s support and became an independent MP in 1977 much to the chagrin of his own mother. Later, when Gandhi came to power in 1980, he joined the Congress and continued till the Hawala scandal of 1996, when he again fought and won as an Independent, only to later rejoin the Congress.

This Scindia dynasty having deep roots in Hindu Mahasabhah and Jan Sangh is never been loyal to Congress.
Scindia, as expected, may join the BJP, when the Congress expells him because of his resignation. He will get a cabinet berth at the Centre. His wish to go to the Rajya Sabha will be fulfilled, but not from the Congress.
This Junior Scindia dynasty seems to made 'Ghar Vapsi' once again to join Jan Sangh.

Feel sorry to see Congress is getting doomed forever. It has dug its own grave. During congress regime they had every opportunity to strictly control the Judiciary, Income tax, Sales tax, Mining, import and export, Airports, Railways, Banks and all major Income generating ministries. But congress were careless to control all these organizations. During congress regime and because of its carelessness all the ministries including the Judiciary were so corrupt Indians were living in lawless Land. Without bribing no papers were moving. The cheating lovers , crooks and rowdies grabbed lands and funds from innocent people by bribing the judiciary and the lawyers who were indulged in fake decrees and fraudulent sales decrees but congress didn't take strict actions against this . The years after independence from year 1965 to 2000 the India was living on Golden Age of corruption. The corrupted people made wealth as much as they could and came out clean by the graces of corrupt judiciary and lawyers. Now the BJP government has strarted to hunt down each and every ministries. So Congress ruined everything because of being good to these kind of corrupt government workers and organizations. So hard luck for congress in the next election. This is a lesson for congress who keeps loose on ministries. and porfolios. Poor Soniaji she may cry.

The Gandhi Vadra clan wanted to perpetuate their vice like grip, on the party like living monarchs, they were surrounded by a sycophants, who believed that India represents Gandhi Vadra lineage till eternity !!!!! The option before the family is extremely limited... The earlier the Gandhi family quits the Congress the better it will be for the party as well as for the country. If they don't quit on their own, the youngsters should oust them from the party. Along with them the oldies should also be shown the door. There is no dearth of talented people in the Congress. The only pity is they will not get a chance to come up as long as Sonia and family are around. It is very sad a talented person like Scindia had to leave the party. Before more damage is done and before more youngsters leave, the party should be revived. Drastic and swift action is the need of the hour. Sonia and her family have failed the party. It is time to look beyond them. If they refuse to leave gracefully, they should be ousted. No two ways about that. Enough is enough.

    Dear Vishal, Mangalore,

Gandhi family quitting alone will not do. Family fiefdom with help of many powerful regional family fiefdoms is what represents Congress. If Congress is to survive, this culture has to go. It is because of this culture in JDS, Siddu moved to Congress. We see something similar in Karkala as well, where the senior Moily is patiently waiting for his Junior Moily to mature, rather than focus on fielding able candidates.

By the way, this method of ruling the country with help of few select powerful community leaders is also how Kings controlled their kingdom in the past and British too used this method fully.

This culture has to be rid from political parties. Only those candidates who are sincere, capable and purely based on merit, should be fielded as candidates. Only then will Congress mature to be a responsible opposition in the country. It is also ironic that in the past 70 years of post-independence India, their years of experience in opposition benches is low.

Ever since Congress wrested power in MP and Rajasthan, this was not about "if", but "when". Congress's obsession of making it family business means that younger scions Pilot of Rajastan and Scindia of MP who played a big role in the win, were sidelined and old and tired horses, Gehlot and Kamal Nath were put on helm to keep this young guns from gaining any more popularity and stature within the party to challenge Rahul Baba. Scindia has crossed the fence. Guess, Pilot will also follow suit.

For Congress, next level leadership in the form of Rajesh Pilot, MR Scindia and YSR Reddy all got killed in an accident. They were therefore left with ailing Sonia and young Rahul Baba who never matured to take over the helm. I tend to believe that this was not pre-planned, but accident as it was made to believe.

The Congress party is dying a painful death. If no action is taken atleast now, the youngsters in the party will leave the Congress one by one. Jyotiraditya Scindia leaving the Congress and joining the BJP is a very big body blow to the party from which it might be very difficult to recover. The Congress should never have allowed Scindia to feel frustrated. Next in the line could be Rajesh Pilot. It is high time the youngsters oust Sonia and her family from the Congress. They are a liability to the party. Atleast the youngsters should select one amongst them and form a new party. They know they will never be able to come up in the Congress as long as Sonia is at the helm of affairs. I don't have any great affection towards the Congress but I certainly want a strong and formidable opposition to stop the BJP in its tracks. The nation needs it.

V true. I was hoping he would be made the PM candidate for Congress. We need such guys to counter Modi and Shah. Only wish the younger congressmen meet together to form a new secular party.

To think Scindia just a few months back was prompting RaGa ...what to say in front of the cameras in respect of farmers loan waiver in MP !
The obituary of the Congress in MP was written the day the high command in a foolish decision gave the reins to the tainted and scandalous Kamalnath . His only qualifications being a Gandhi crony. Now ....end of story.

Congress party & the politicians are more of a drama company than a challenging opposition political party. Let them disintegrate completely so that new emerging party can replace them. Sooner the better. Incapable people and what we can expect from these useless leader in the governance of the county.

Gandhis have to allow young politicians like scindia or pilot to be AICC president or secretary. If they stick on to it then worst is imminent.

These turncoat politicians will go to any extent to save their greed for power and money....and their so called faithful benefactors will follow suit without a thought !! it does not take a blink of an eye for the politicians to change their statements and fool people.....we can only pray to God to give wisdom to all the people in this world who are carried away by politicians from one end to the other without realizing that they are getting screwed either ways
