Former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia joins BJP

New Delhi, Mar 11 (IANS): Accusing the Congress of living in denial mode on the day after resigning from Congress, Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP here in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"In my life two dates have been very significant. September 30, 2001 when I lost my father. It changed my life. The second date is March 10, 2020 which was his 75th birth anniversary when I took an informed decision," said he.

Thanking PM Narendra Modi, referring to Bharat Mata and resurrecting his father Madhavrao Scindia, he made a strong pitch for himself while being flanked by BJP President J.P. Nadda and BJP's Madhya Pradesh in-charge Vinay Sahasrabuddhe among others.

Hitting out at the Congress, he alleged "the Congress today is not the same as it was in its original avatar". He also accused the Congress of denying ground reality.

"I had a dream when Congress formed the government in Madhya Pradesh in 2018. Eighteen months later, none of the promises are met including the ones that of farmers," remarked Scindia. He accused his former party of going back on its promises as well as indulging in corruption. "Today 'transfer' is an industry in Madhya Pradesh," he alleged, hitting out at Kamal Nath.

It is believed the BJP is likely to send him to Rajya Sabha and accommodate in the Union cabinet. Also, as a BJP government is formed in the state, Scindia's aides are likely to be taken in the Madhya Pradesh cabinet under Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

His resignation on Tuesday came after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He has been upset about being sidelined in the state and preempting that Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh may have prevailed over the interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi against sending him to the upper house of the parliament.

Scindia has been the only string between the Scindia family and the Congress party. Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia of Gwalior, Vasundhara Raje, and Yashodhara Raje have been part of the Jan Sangh and the BJP. Only his father chose to go to the Congress. With Jyotiraditya Scindia accepting BJP's primary membership on Wednesday, that relationship has gone.

With the support of 121 MLAs, the Kamal Nath government had a bleak majority in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly that exhibits strength of 228. The BJP has 107 MLAs, while one lawmaker each of BSP and SP have indicated that they would extend support towards the new government.

Ever since Kamal Nath's government was formed in 2018, the BJP focused on spring into power. This belief was further strengthened when Scindia was snubbed of the chief ministerial position. He had also lost the Lok Sabha elections from his family ground of Guna.

Political developments gained pace in the last few weeks when Scindia realised that the Congress may not send him to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. The Congress and BJP can send one member each on the strength of their MLAs in the state, while there is a contest for the third seat.

The developments in the state promoted unrest among the 20 rebel MLAs who were then taken to Karnataka which is under the BJP government. Sources claim that Chouhan and Union rural development minister Narendra Singh Tomar the MP from Morena were instrumental in Scindia’s defection.

He was blamming BJP few months ago. He was known as Congress leader. His home was attacked by BJP goons when his father was alive. What is Congress idiology and what's BJP's. It's quite opposite. He is simply saying that he wanted to serve the people. He is selfish. He has hunger for power and money. Shame on him! No one can trust him. People should boot out such opportunists in elections, because they are danger to nation.

If it was service and love for the country is what Jyotiraditya Scindia claims his moto in life to be, then he would never have joined the BJP which his own father abhorred and called evil and dangerous for the country.
Today more than ever the country needs a strong opposition. The economy is in shambles, unemployment is skyrocketing, the purchasing power of citizens has declined, the politics of hate and division rules the day and democratic institutions are being eroded each passing day.
If therefore Scindia truly loved his country, he would have put is ego and hunger for power aside and worked to strengthen the opposition parties.
Instead what he has done is taken a very selfish step just for personal gains. His true character now stands exposed.

I do not see any wrong in what Mr. Scindia did. If someone gets ignored repeatedly then he/she has every right to ditch anybody.
There is a big difference between SM Krishna and Scindia. SMK was given every post but still jumped to BJP, where as Scindia was ignored Left Right and Centre by Congress.

Scindia family by heart are Sanghis. Just because father of jyotiraditya did not agree with the narrow mindedness of Chaddis, he joined the more flamboyant congress as he was educated in Uk.

Son also followed the same thing. He knew that BlueJP is a party of morons with third rated cheap mentality. So he joined Congress.

For scindia family it is just ghar wapsi. Congress has utterly failed in the case of Jyoti as well as not appointing sachin pilot. Both were able leaders.

Jyoti will get only babaji ka tullu in a party like BJP. Shivajirao chauhan is worse than kamal nath. He will not allow jyoti to become CM. Though he will say okay for sometime, then he will start his games.

Scindia has the charishma and the draw to win votes , its due to his campaigning that Cong won,
Scindia also will be a good marketing tool for BJP and he can win elections unlike Pappu who has to look for a safe constituency in Kerala somewhere to win on Muslim votes. He will definitely be taken good care of at least something better than what he was doing now for the time being. Moreover its obvious that in BJP you grow and get a chance to deliver. You know 2 Bhaimas who joined BJP in the MCC elections were given a chance to contest. For instance , Let say ,hypothetically ,if you join Congress tomorrow, you will only shouting slogans for someone like Poojari or Ramanatha Rai for the rest of your life. This is the difference,

It is a selfish motive driven intention. People who leave a party should gracefully quit. After taking all the favours and Ministerial positions there is no point in commenting on the party they wish to leave Political opportunism at its peak.
