Udupi: Lady with suspected coronavirus symptoms admitted at Manipal hospital

Udupi, Mar 11: A woman who displayed coronavirus-like symptoms has been admitted to KMC Manipal's isolation ward.

The 68-year-old woman had travelled to Mecca in Saudi Arabia in the last week of February. She reportedly fell sick in Saudi and was treated for cough and breathlessness. After she recovered, she travelled back to India and arrived at Bengaluru International Airport. She was screened at the airport and was allowed to go. The woman then travelled to her hometown Anandapuram in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district. Here, the woman fell ill again. She was treated at Nanjappa hospital for fever, cough and breathlessness. The woman's family decided to get her tested and has admitted her to KMC Manipal.

The bodily fluids collected from the woman, have been sent for test to Bengaluru. The test results will reveal whether or not the woman has been affected with coronavirus. Till then, the woman will be treated in the isolation ward of the hospital.

    Even though I am not a supporter of BJP, I think the health ministry has done a very good job in containing the virus for so long. Looking at the situation in developed countries and given the fact that a lot of Indians are travelling to all these countries, a count below 100 since 3 months of the outbreak and in a population of 1.5 billion and also being right next door to China, the ministry has done a commendable job.

    Actually government should compulsory quarantine all incoming international travelers for 14 days irrespective of origin...
    Nobody cares in India..

    Govt. of India has taken utmost precaution till date despite the political turmoil and riots in the country. Even brought back Indians from worst affected countries like China and Iran. Plans are underway to bring citizens from Italy also.

    It's easier said then done. The sheer volume of people flying in from abroad makes it impossible. Quaratining healthy people with some one who might have the virus puts them on risk too.
