Panic as fire breaks out in Kolkata medical college


Kolkata, Mar 12 (IANS): There was much panic as fire broke out in the emergency ward of the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday afternoon, officials said. There were no injuries or casualty.

The fire was first noticed in the casualty wing of the emergency department around 3:30 p.m., triggering panic among patients and their relatives.

At least 40 patients were shifted out of the emergency as five fire engines brought the situation under control within 30 minutes.

Disaster management personnel reached the spot within a short time. An inquiry was on to ascertain the reason for the blaze.
