Bengaluru: Coronavirus - Govt orders postponement of 7th-9th std exams until Mar 31

Bengaluru, Mar 15: Deadly coronavirus has been slowly but steadily spreading its tentacles in the country. The state government, determined to contain the advancement of the infection, has already closed down malls, theatres etc and placed a ban on marriage, other functions and fairs where large number of people gather.

The state education department has now taken a decision to postpone examinations for seventh, eighth, and ninth standards because of the gravity of challenges posed by coronavirus. The department, in taking this decision, was guided by the concerns about the health conditions of thie students and teachers.

Primary and secondary education minister, S Suresh Kumar made this announcement on Sunday March 15. The seventh standard examinations, which were scheduled to begin on Monday, have been postponed. The examinations for eighth and ninth standards have also been postponed.

The education department has asked all the schools not to conduct any of the examinations till March 31.

The new dates of the examinations have not been announced. The department said that dates of examinations will be fixed by keeping an eye on the coronavirus situation in Karnataka, and after the situation comes under control. A circular issued by the director for secondary education under the orders of the commissioner in the department said that in order to avoid chances of coronavirus infection spreading from one student to the other, preparatory holiday for the examinations has been announced till March 31 and timetable for the examinations for these classes will be announced later.

The minister clarified that SSLC examination will be held from March 27 to April 9 as already announced. He stressed that there will not be any change in the time table of this examination.
