Mangaluru: 377 screened for coronavirus in DK, DC urges people not to worry

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 15: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday March 15 informed that as many as 377 people have been screened for coronavirus, and no one has tested positive.

"We have screened 377 people in the district. So far 106 people have been kept under surveillance in their homes. We have sent 11 samples for testing today," she said.

"The reports of eight samples that were sent earlier have come. All of them are negative," she added.

"Nine persons were admitted to various hospitals in the district on Sunday. But there is nothing to worry," she said. "There is no need to get hospitalised for common cold."

"People who are travelling to distant places are advised to get in touch with the district administration. Those who come from abroad must mandatorily remain quarantined at home for 14 days," the DC said.

"There are reports that hostels are asking students to produce coronavirus-free certificates. No one can demand such certificates," she said.

The DC once again urged people not to pay heed to rumours on coronavirus.

Udupi

Udupi district health officer (DHO) Sudhir Chandra Sooda on Sunday said that 10 persons have been screened for coronavirus in Udupi district, and all of them tested negative.

Since February 29, a total of 90 persons have been quarantined at home as a precautionary measure, he said.

I am picking on our DC's statement " We have sent 11 samples today". Can we understand from the DC where these samples have been sent for testing and what is the turn around time for obtaining the test results. I understand from our Central Health Minister that there are only 52 labs that are capable of carrying out the tests for CV-19. This will be a critical area to focus on as we cannot wait for the test results if the samples are sent out of Mangalore. We need the tests to be done in Mangalore itself so that we can obtain the test results faster. We need to excert pressure on local authorities to ensure that the testing facilities are made available in Mangalore itself.

We have given 10 million US dollars to SAARC for fighting Corona virus, and we ourselves DO NOT have sufficient laboratories to conduct this test. We spent 1600 crores for NRC in Assam and data lost in clouds. Another 850 crores earmarked for NPR, and it is not going to yield any benefits to the country. Spent 3000 crores on a statue but our own country people do not have sufficient health care facilities. Another statue worth 3826 crores in progress, but our farmers are committing suicides for not having sufficient funds to repay their loan.
Trying to remain in power is the only task these politicians have, or they have any responsibility towards citizens of India.

Because of these stupid statements, there will be many ignoring the symptoms and spreading the disease all the way. It will be like a time bomb. When it explodes, i foresee the same dumbheads giving various excuses!!!

Ignore the DC, get tested even if you have a common cold followed by temperature. Even if you feel difficulty in breathing or a uncomfortable feeling when you inhale and hold for 10 seconds, go, get tested and get yourself isolated.

I still don't understand what our DC says. Please be serious when dealing with Pandamic. Home quarantine means what. How you all monitoring the Patients. Are they kept in separate room and separate washroom. What about family members. There is no need quarantined person have to go out. Even his family member can be a carrier. So please deal this case with seriousness.

By reading our DC's recent statements, I feel she doesn't have any idea on the seriousness of this pandemic.
The right advice is to say, even if you have a common cold with fever, get tested for corona virus.
Dear DC, do not tone down the issue by saying not to worry. You are following what Italy did earlier. Do not take us to a situation where Italy is now.

She is doing her duty at the best for the Dakshina Kannada district. It's our duty to follow the safety messaures to keep ourselves safe from the virus and not to point out the "statements"
Government have taken all the messaures : closing malls, theaters, schools and colleges, etc where the public gets grouped.
She reported "not to worry" just because people won't get panic because of it and believe the wrong rumours in and around.

Rohan-- since this disease is a new , even for scientists.. how do you expect government officials to have in depth knowledge on it.. they may be having only general knowledge.. their main focus is stop spreading, quarantine people and give first aid to suspected people

As per me, I would rephrase the sentence as please do not panic but be "cautious"..
Evey body thinks it can not happen to me, Mangalore is too far from China etc.. but be aware even a place like Norway is very far but the cases registered is 800 so let's take all precautions..
