Bangwal, Mar 16: A woman who works as housemaid, on Saturday, March 14, filed a complaint in the town police station here, accusing a relative of her employer of assaulting and raping her repeatedly over a period of time. The victim also said that her tormentor, besides torturing and raping her often, also posed threat of murder if she complained about his behaviour.

The lady has named the accused in the case as Hameed, resident of Mohappat Lal, Talapady in B Mooda village near Kaikamba, B C Road. The complainant, who is reportedly in shock due to the above incidents, is being treated at Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. The rape accused in the meantime has fled, and the police are making an effort to trace him.

The complainant is 19. She hails from Holehonnur, Bhadravati in Shivamogga district. Her marriage was performed with a local youth there. On account of certain personal reasons, the couple could not live harmoniously for long. As such, she deserted her husband and came to stay with parents.

On account of abject poverty, the woman found it hard to carry on with life. She therefore came here to work in the residence of Abdul Rahman, resident of Mohappat Lal, Talapady, as domestic servant. Hameed, younger brother of Abdul Rahman's wife, used to visit Rahman's house when no one else was present. He forced the lady to cooperate with him to satiate his desires. As she did not agree, he assaulted her and raped her many a time, it is said. Every time he raped the lady, he is said to have threatened her of death if she revealed information about the rape to others, she said in the complaint.

The town police here, who have registered a case, are on the lookout for the absconding accused.

I do not understand why the victim remained silent for such a long time or waited till multiple rapes happen.
In this particular case, the rapist is an outsider and he visits that home frequently. This allows the victim to lodge a complain or at least get some help, but she remained quite. This is not just one case, hundreds of cases surface, where a complain is lodged only after multiple rapes or after the passage of months and sometimes years. I do not understand this.
In majority of cases Consensual sex converts to rape when demands are not met.
However consensual sex too NOT allowed in the religion both follow, punishment to given for the crime.

No mention of outside community involved. Which means, better leave them alone. Because there are many by-laws that suggest use of women for pleasure and the women don't protest.

It's when the women come out on the roads, the community can be repaired of ill-practices.

Now that she has come out open, it becomes our responsibility to provide immediate justice to the lady and there on to bring a common civil code which could sideline all those outdated literature.

If common civil code is GOING TO STOP THE RAPES, i am with you. Unfortunately more rapes happen within people who insist for common civil code.
