Quarantine facility coming up at Hyderabad stadium


Hyderabad, Mar 17 (IANS): A 50-bed quarantine facility is coming up at GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium at Gachibowli here for the air passengers landing in the city with the suspected symptoms of Covid-19.

With Telangana registering fourth Covid-19 positive case on Monday and steady increase in the number of people with suspected symptoms, the health authorities were working to ready a 50-bed facility at the stadium, popularly known as Gachibowli stadium.

Work was on at administrative block of the stadium to ready the facility. Officials of Health Department and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were busy making the necessary arrangements. The centre is likely to be ready in two days.

The Health Department on Monday announced that all passengers arriving at Hyderabad Airport from China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, France, Germany and Spain either will be quarantined for 14 days.

Meanwhile, the Health Department's efforts to establish a quarantine centre in Vikarabad near Hyderabad is facing opposition from the local people. Health Minister Eatala Rajender has allayed the apprehensions of people saying only those arriving from abroad and showing symptoms of the infection would be kept in the quarantine centre for 14 days.

He assured the people that infected persons will not be kept in the quarantine facilities.
