Kasargod, Mar 17: Robin John Rodrigues, a 20-year-old hailing from Maniyampare, Kasargod, had many dreams for his future. He wanted to provide good medical treatment for his mother and build a house for his family. Being an active social worker, he won the hearts of many in his locality. But fate came in the form of an accident and shattered all his dreams and pushed him into the world of sorrow.

Robin was travelling to work on his two-wheeler, when a car rammed into him at Hebbal in Bengaluru in December. The impact of the accident was such that Robin was thrown on the road. Good Samaritans rushed him to a local hospital. He was admitted in ICU for 5 days and had to undergo various surgeries which cost his family more than Rs 5 lac. Robin has sustained serious injuries on his leg and backbone and needs more surgeries and treatment to lead a normal life. Currently, he is undergoing treatment at Father Muller Hospital, Mangaluru.

As per doctors, who are treating Robin, another Rs 10 lac is needed for further treatment. Robin’s mother Irene D’Souza is also suffering from acute kidney problems. Her both kidneys have failed and she is undergoing dialysis once in two days. The dialysis costs Rs 25,000 per month.

Robin’s family is very poor and they cannot afford to meet the huge cost of the treatment by themselves. They already sold their gold ornaments and valuables to meet the initial cost of treatment. Now, the family without any other source of income are not in a position to provide treatment as advised by the doctors.

The family members now helplessly watch in dismay as Robin’s health deteriorates with each passing day. They are now seeking financial help from willing donors to provide treatment for Robin. They hope his treatment continues and he can lead a normal life again.

Call on all Catholics during this is Lent season lets do a small act of kindness. Churches are closed in many countries; people are suffering! This is the time to pray and help someone in need. Be like a good Samaritan who took care of a stranger who was robbed and beaten to death. I did my part for this stranger. Please do your part.
