Bengaluru, Mar 18: Doctors of several clinics and small nursing homes are wary of treating patients for the fear that they might be infected with coronavirus. The fear is more deep-rooted after the information that a private doctor who had treated a coronavirus patient at Kalaburagi has tested positive for the infection.

On an average, 30 percent of clinics and mini nursing homes are said to have stopped operating. The closure of clinics is witnessed more in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, Hassan, Davanagere and coastal region where the affected people are more.

The doctors find it difficult to maintain distance of three metres from the patients, concerned about the possibility of those close to the patients having been infected with coronavirus, chances of coronavirus presence getting confirmed after a few days of coming into contact with the doctors, and the knowledge that the system of getting all information about the patients and those who were in contact with them is not very efficient.

The medical stores have now stopped dispensing medicines without the doctors’ prescriptions as before, for the fear of getting caught by the surveillance teams. Some fake doctors have slunk to the oblivion while the number of patients getting admitted into the government hospitals has come down a little either because of getting
coronavirus infection there from other patients, being diagnosed with coronavirus upon admission, or because of the fear planted in their hearts on account of various rumours making the rounds on social network.

Indian Medical Association general secretary, Dr Srinivas, said that the doctors, for whom serving the patients is of paramount importance, should improve the systems and facilities at their clinics, take precautions and treat the patients properly.
