Panic buying in Delhi; people stocking grain, edible oil


New Delhi, March 20 (IANS): The number of coronavirus infected people has increasing constantly in the natinal capital with 17 such cases have been detected so far. Amid the situation, a panic buying was witnessed among the people as they have started stocking flour, rice, pulses, edible oil, soaps etc. in an excessive quantity.

The wholesellers have said that maximum people are buying coarse grain.

"Though I am witnessing customers as normal days but the stocks of flour, rice, pulses and edible oils are started ending at big wholesellers' shops," said Rohit Chawla, a shopkeeper in Rohini area.

People are also scared of 'Janata Curfew'. They are saying that the government is conducting a test so that it can permanently impose it in the near future. Hence, people are uneasy.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the nation had said that people should not panic, do not make unnecessary purchases of essential things. Keep self restraint and do not leave the houses. Meanwhile, many shopkeepers in Delhi are considering shutting down their shops to fight against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also announced that malls will be closed from Friday.
