Chaos in Jharkhand House as BJP MLA calls Rahul 'Pappu'

Ranchi, March 20 (IANS): The Jharkhand Assembly on Friday witnessed noisy scenes after former minister and BJP legislator C.P. Singh termed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a 'pappu'.

When the Assembly session started at 11 a.m. on Friday, Congress legislator Irfan Ansari raised the question of the nomination of former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha. Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto prevented him from raising such an issue as it did not pertain to the state.

Singh said that he had to raise important issues and then he termed Rahul Gandhi a 'pappu'.

His remark invited sharp reactions from the ruling Congress legislators who came to the Well demanding an apology from the BJP leader. The BJP legislators also came to the Well.

The situation could have turned violent but Parliamentary Affairs Minister Aalamgir Aalam and JVM-P legislator Pradeep Yadav intervened to calm the legislators.

Amid slogans and counter slogans of the ruling Congress and BJP legislators, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon. When the House convened again similar scenes were witnessed forcing the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings till 2 p.m.
