TN closes border roads, movement of essentials allowed


Chennai, March 20 (IANS): The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced near closure of its border roads with Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka by restricting movement of vehicles to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In a statement issued here the government said the traffic on roads linking Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh will be restricted to certain types of vehicles effective from Saturday till March 31.

The government said vehicles carrying essential items such as milk, gas cylinders, oil, vegetables, medicines, ambulance and other goods carrying vehicles; light vehicles carrying people to visit for births and deaths and limited number of state government buses would be exempt.

The government said people travelling in the above vehicles will be subjected to health check and the vehicles will be subjected to prevention of spread of the disease.
