Srinagar, Mar 21 (IANS): In the wake of coronavirus threat, the Jammu and Kashmir Wakaf board has suspended religious gatherings and displaying of Holy Relic on the eve of Mehraj-ul-Alam celebrations, a statement issued by the Chief Executive J&K Wakaf Board on Saturday said.
The statement said in view of the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19), declared as "Pandemic" by the World Health Organization and as preventive measure to contain the spread of the virus in Kashmir Valley and subsequent imposition of restrictions under section 144 of the CrPC by the district Administration concerned, "It is hereby ordered to suspend regular prayers in shrines/mosques affiliated with the Wakaf board and displaying of Holy Relic on the occasion of Mehraj-ul-Alam celebrations."
Thanking the decision made by the Wakaf board district Magistrate Srinagar Shahid Choudhary tweeted: "J&K Wakaf board has suspended prayers in all shrines and mosques, including display of Holy Relic. Thankful for their cooperation."
Muslims observe Mehraj-ul-Alam, a day that commemorates Prophet Muhammad's night-time tour of the heavens.
