Punjab allows distilleries to manufacture hand sanitizers


Chandigarh, Mar 21 (IANS): To overcome shortage of hand sanitizers, the Punjab government on Saturday allowed to distilleries to manufacture them.

In order to meet the growing demand of hand sanitizers and hand rubs in view of health emergency, the Drug Administration Commissionerate has granted permission to distilleries registered with Excise and Taxation Department to manufacture and supply them, said Commissioner Food and Drug Administration K.S. Pannu.

However, the permission was granted purely on temporary basis for 10 days.

Pannu said the producer would make the supply to government institutions only. The producer will use the standardized materials only and will supply the material at price not more than the price fixed by the state and the Central governments.

Pannu said the drug control officers of the area would inspect the manufacturing units on a daily basis to take the stock of quality and quantity.
